I struggled to open my eyes. My head pounded like someone was hitting it with a hammer. I glanced around, and my heart raced in my ribcage. It was the same mansion where I had been caged for a month, the same mansion where I had screamed in agony, the same mansion where I had lost my modesty. My cries, my yells, his sadistic laughter reverberated in my ears.

My hands got clammy, sweat beads formed, and I realized I was tied to a luxurious couch. No… no… no, please, not again. I can’t live with this nightmare again, please. Fear crawled through my veins, and tears rolled down my cheeks as a sob escaped my lips. No… this can’t be happening. Panic surged through me. I wiggled, the metal chain piercing my skin and causing me to bleed. I stood from the couch, but my foot slumped, and I fell to the floor with a thud, landing on my stomach. I hissed and glanced at my foot; I was chained.

A Few Hours Ago:

“Is this good, Erica? I don’t think so. He will like me with a tattoo,” I muttered, my thoughts tangled in a web of uncertainty. Here I was, sitting in a tattoo shop owned by Alex’s sister, Erica, who was nothing short of amazing—just like my best friends, Rooh and Ashii. My eyes darted nervously to the buzzing needles. I wasn’t afraid of needles or physical pain; I had a blue-eyed monster, who had put me through my fair share of scrapes.

No, my fear stemmed from Saransh. I knew he wouldn’t get angry about the tattoo itself, but I was pretty sure he’d be furious that I was willingly putting myself through pain.

“Chill, ragazza! I’ve known your husband for five years. He’s the coolest dude ever, unlike my brother, who’s a raging mad bull. He’ll love it!” Erica winked at me, and I couldn’t help but chuckle, shaking my head.

This evening, we were heading back to India, and I was bubbling with excitement—especially to see Maa. Just the thought of her made my heart swell with warmth. Finally, I felt like a human being, deserving of love and respect, everything a girl should have from her parents and partner. And it was all thanks to Saransh.

“Hello, back to Earth, ragazza!” Erica snapped her fingers, pulling me from my thoughts.

“Huh?” I blinked, trying to focus.

“I asked what you want to ink on your skin, darling,” she said, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. I sighed, feeling the weight of indecision settle on my shoulders. What should I get? Should I call Roohi for ideas? Nah, she’d probably suggest something ridiculous.

“I don’t know,” I mumbled, exhaling a heavy sigh.

“What does he call you? Like some nickname or something?” she prodded, and I felt heat creep up my cheeks. I bit my lip, and she wiggled her eyebrows, clearly intrigued.
