First Person Point of View: Becca Blue:

*

At around nine, we take to the twelve o'clock beach and begin to silently hike up the hill to the tree. The bright moon is leading us. I catch myself glancing up at it, staring at it. I know it's fake, but it's the last time I'll ever even see the moon. That gnawing gut feeling is back, clawing at me with its claws of distrust.

We make it up the tree and Beetee immediately begins his work. Finnick and I work on securing the wire on a fallen branch, then he tasks me with wrapping it around the tree. Finnick hands me the spool, and I just run around the tree in circles until I get dizzy. When I do, I pop the last remaining pill in my mouth and stop. Finnick and I take turns passing the spool around until Beetee says to stop.

Just as the wave roars through the ten o'clock zone, Beetee reveals the second half of the plan. Knowing we only have two hours left to work, his words were rushed and confusing. The one part I could hook onto was the fact he was splitting us up.

Katniss and Johanna were to string the wire through the jungle while Peeta, Finnikc and I were to stay here and guard him.

Peeta steps forward, to Katniss almost immediately. "I'd like to go with them as guard."

"You're too slow. Plus, I need you here to guard." Beetee says, and something clicks in my head. Are they trying to break us apart? Or are they simply trying to get the plan into action? Is there really something they're not explaining? "There is no time to debate this. If the girls are to get out of here alive, then they need to go. Now." He urgently says, handing the coil to Johanna.

"It's okay, we'll just drop the coil and come back up here." Katniss says.

"Not back here. Not to the lightning one." Beetee says, "Head for the tree in the one-to-two o'clock zone. If you find yourself running out of time, head one more over. Don't even think about going back to the beach before I can assess the damage." Beetee instructs.

"Just go!" I say, a little panicked as the nerves settle in. This is it.

Katniss takes Peeta's face in her hands and kisses him. "See you at midnight." She whispers, then goes off with Johanna. I watch them descend down the slope. I shove my spear into the ground, having it stand next to me. Even when the head is on the ground, it's still standing taller than me. This whole time I was lugging around a weapon taller than me. I must've looked like an idiot.

However, the poison and the slingshot remain my main weapons. Finnick, Peeta and I position ourselves around the tree while Beetee scurries around it. The three of us stand in a triangle, me at the point and Finnick and Peeta standing at the wings.

I watch the wire, straight and about an inch off the ground. It travels straight from the tree, between my legs and into the deep and dark jungle. For some reason, it seems like the moon has dimmed, yet the heat has only been amplified. I stand guard, waiting for someone to come and kill me. Who would it be? Chaff? Brutus? Enobaria? Most likely the latter, I killed their district partner anyways. Maybe it would be a fluke, like a branch falling and clocking me on the head. That would almost be comical. Win by a fluke, die by a fluke.
Plop!

I hear the noise and look down, furrowing my brows. The wire that had once been ridgid, like when you pull two sides of a string, has now gone slack. Dropping and snapping abc towards my feet. I jump to the side to avoid the wire cutting me. "Guys?"

Peeta turns his head first, "yeah?"

"The wire." Finnick turns around and mutters something under his breath.
