Nya's P.O.V:

The water was getting colder and colder as we moved towards the island. There were goosebumps all over my skin. I don't think I could swim any longer, but I have to win this race! For the mermaids! So, I kept pushing and swimming in freezing water.

"Nya, can we stop for a break?" Skylor asked, breathing very loudly.

"No! We have to win this race!" I said, swimming faster.
"Nya! Wait up!!!" I heard the others from behind me yell.

No...I have to do this. As my tail moved, I could feel my skin going numb and then my tail stopped moving. It's as if the freezing water made me frozen. My eyelids feel heavy, so heavy that I couldn't even keep them up.

After a few seconds I was sinking, in the freezing water. My eyes had closed and I did not know where I was going. My mouth had gone numb, so I couldn't even scream for help.

Jay's P.O.V:

We were winning! The mermaids were still in the back.

"Jay, Zane said to ask Nya which way we go next," Cole told me.

"Sure thing," I said, getting my mouth ready to say the best name ever,"Nya!!!!!!!!!!!!"

There was no response. Maybe the mermaids had been left behind so far that they still needed a minute to catch up.

"Wait for them to come," I said.

Cole nodded and went to tell Captain Zane.

I looked at the water to see if the mermaids were coming anytime soon. I saw something orange, purple, and green coming towards us. Maybe something red, but it wasn't that clear.

Once they got closer, I could tell it was Skylor, P.I.X.A.L, and Harumi swimming towards us.

"It's way too cold in the water. Let us on board, too," Skylor whined.

"I'm tired!!" Harumi groaned.

"Where's Nya?" P.I.X.A.L asked.

"What do you mean? Don't you guys know?" I asked, getting the ladder to put it down, but then realizing they don't have legs to climb, so Kai, Lloyd, and I had to pull them up.

"I thought she came to you guys already," P.I.X.A.L said, reaching for my hand.

"No, wouldn't she be with you guys?" I asked, pulling her up.

"Nya had swam faster and further away from us," P.I.X.A.L informed, sitting on the deck and keeping her balance by a nearby hook.
"Where could she have gone?" I asked, starting to feel all types of feelings in my stomach. Worry was a huge one.

"What happened?" Kai asked.

"Nya is lost," I said.

"What?!"

"She's lost in the cold water?!" Skylor asked.

I had just realized that Nya could be suffering in the water, all alone, lost. So, without even thinking I jumped into the water and started swimming to find her.

I could hear my name being yelled from behind me, but I didn't care. I had one mission and that was to find Nya.

"Nya!!" I screamed as my teeth rattled,"Nya, where are you?!!"

Don't tell me I lost her.

"NYA!!!!!!"

I could feel dirty tears and snot sliding down my face.

"NYA!!!!! WHERE ARE YOU?!!!!!!!"

I ducked my head in the water and started swimming further away from the ship. As I was swimming, I noticed a huge fish under me. Don't get near me, please don't get near me.

But, it seemed as if the huge fish wasn't coming closer to me, but instead away. Could it be injured?

I quickly swam deeper and deeper in the water, the cold somehow going away. When I got closer to the creature, I noticed it had nice shiny black hair. What fish has black hair?....Unless it wasn't a fish!

"NYA!!!!!" I screamed in the water.

As soon as I reached her, I pulled her close to me and started swimming upwards. I needed to take her to safety.

When I reached the ship, I placed Nya down on the deck. It was very cold, but I needed to make sure Nya was safe first. So, I placed my lips on hers and started giving her rescue breaths. Nya, please, I need you.

After breathing ten times, I heard a loud breathing come out of Nya's mouth.

"Nya!!!!"

She was gasping for air, so I helped her up. I placed my arms around her to make sure she was warm.

"Jay.." she coughed.

"What happened, Nya? I thought I almost lost you," I said.

"Me too!" Kai said, coming in to hug her too.

"I thought I could win the race in the freezing water, so I pushed myself until I couldn't handle it any longer," Nya cried.

"Shhhh," I wiped her tears,"it's ok now."

I picked her up, bridal style, and took her inside the deck where I wrapped both of us in a blanket.

"Thanks, Jay," she said.

I smiled at her as she rested her head on my shoulder.

Not thinking one bit, I placed a kiss on her forehead. That made her move closer to me and I wrapped my arms around her.

Soon enough everyone was coming inside the deck because it was getting colder outside. The mermaids had to be carried to the deck and they had to sit by holding onto the hooks on the walls.

Cole came to the deck and peered at Nya and I.

"Which way next?" he asked.

"Northeast and then we will reach the island," Nya said.

"Thanks, hope you feel better," Cole said.

I do, too.

Ok I updated this in a long time 😅 sorry. I just have been so busy! But, I have finally updated this. I am currently working on a different story right now, but I am trying to finish it and then publish it. So give me time, please! Thanks, see ya in the next chapter! 😁👋🏽
