The waves lapped gently against the hull of the ship as Y/N stared down at the book in her hands. The weight of its secrets felt heavier than the pages themselves. *What am I supposed to do with this?* Her mind raced with possibilities, none of them good. She had to be careful. Bakugo was volatile, and if he caught her with the book again... she didn't even want to think about it.
A shadow fell over her, and Y/N quickly tucked the book beneath her cloak, heart racing. She looked up to see Kirishima, his usual warm smile slightly dimmed with concern. "You alright?" he asked, lowering himself into a crouch beside her.
She forced a nod. "Yeah, just... a lot on my mind."
Kirishima glanced toward the captain, who stood at the helm of the ship, barking orders as the crew prepared to set sail again. His gaze softened as he turned back to Y/N. "Bakugo's not easy to deal with. Trust me, I've known the guy for years, and even I don't fully get him. But he's not as bad as he seems."
Y/N wasn't so sure about that. "He treats me like a prisoner," she said quietly, casting a glance at Bakugo, who was currently in a heated argument with Denki about the navigation charts. "Why does he hate me so much?"
Kirishima sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "It's not you. It's the book. Bakugo has... a complicated past. His family, the legacy. That book—it's not just stories. It's a reminder of his families past and the need to protect his family and crew. And now, seeing it in your hands, he thinks you know things about him that you're not telling us."
Y/N swallowed hard. "But I DON'T know anything. I didn't even realize it was real."
Kirishima nodded. "I believe you. But Bakugo doesn't trust easily. He thinks you're a threat until you prove otherwise."
Before Y/N could respond, a sharp voice cut through their conversation.
"Oi, Kirishima! Get your ass over here!" Bakugo was glaring down at them, arms crossed, his crimson eyes flicking to Y/N for a brief moment before returning to Kirishima. "We're losing daylight."
Kirishima shot her an apologetic smile before standing up. "Just give him time," he said softly, before jogging over to Bakugo's side. Y/N watched them go, the weight of Kirishima's words settling in her chest. *Time.* That was the one thing she didn't feel like she had. If she didn't figure something out soon, she had a feeling Bakugo's patience—what little of it there was—would run out.
The ship set sail again, the crew moving with a practiced efficiency that Y/N still marveled at. She stayed out of the way, keeping herself busy with small tasks to avoid drawing any attention. But all the while, her mind was racing, trying to piece together a plan. *What am I going to do?* The book felt like both a weapon and a curse, one she hadn't asked for but couldn't seem to let go of.
The wind picked up as the day wore on, and dark clouds began to gather on the horizon. Y/N's stomach churned uneasily as the waves grew rougher. She wasn't used to the constant motion of the ship, and the storm brewing ahead didn't help. The rest of the crew, however, seemed unfazed, though Bakugo's voice grew sharper as he gave out orders.
"Storm's coming in fast," Denki muttered as he passed by Y/N, squinting at the darkening sky. "Better hold on to something."
Sure enough, within the hour, the storm was upon them. The skies opened up, rain pelting down in sheets as the ship rocked violently beneath the onslaught of wind and waves. The crew scrambled to secure the sails and tie down anything that wasn't already fastened. Y/N, clutching the railing for dear life, watched in awe at how they moved, even as the storm threatened to tear the ship apart.
"Get below deck!" Kirishima shouted over the roar of the wind, his voice barely audible. He rushed past her, helping Mina secure a loose rope.
Y/N hesitated, torn between the safety of the lower decks and the overwhelming chaos around her. But as another wave slammed into the side of the ship, sending her sprawling across the deck, she made her decision. Scrambling to her feet, she made her way toward the hatch, but before she could reach it, a deafening crack split the air.
