Caged bird. Caged bird. Caged bird
I thought my care for you kept you safe,
Shielding you from predators, life's pain and punishment.  Worried about the storms you will face on your path , Fearing you'd perish with the lifes raging tide

Oh, little did I know, you were born to soar,
A bird meant to embrace the storm, and fly high .  Like a protective mother, I tried to cage you tight,  Thinking I was doing right, keeping you in sight. I blocked the gate of the cage with my hands. You pecked my hands to get free but I mistook even that for your care.

Oh, bird of freedom, spread your wings and fly,
Embrace the wind , reach for the sky.
You were meant for greatness, far and wide,
Soar high like the eage you were meant to be
