When the sun peeked over the horizon and Ty had woken Andi up for school, she'd helped him get ready and before she knew it, they were making their way out of the ranch. But, as she looked over at the separate trail to Quinn's house, she noticed it emptier than usual.

Of course, their truck was missing because they were still at the hospital, but a certain Impala was missing and the realization had dawned on her at that second. When Quinn and Jensen stepped out of the room the night before at the hospital, the somber look on his face, the use of 'Goodbye' instead of 'Goodnight'.

It all made sense and Ty felt stupid for not realizing he was leaving before anyone could bid him goodbye. She was too stuck in her own mind to notice the way he'd looked at her the night before when she dropped him off.

She rolled her eyes at herself and clenched her jaw as she drove out of the ranch, Andi's voice singing along to Jason Aldean's voice from the backseat.

She didn't care, he was just Quinn's friend who came to visit and that was it. He was gone and things would go back to normal from before he invaded her privacy on the ranch, at AJ's, and in her truck. Even her own mind.

Her grasp on the steering wheel tightened at the stupid thoughts in her mind and she let out a slow breath, focusing on Andi getting to school on time.

The slow trot of Boone walking down a trail under the trees was the only sound for miles, his hooves grating on every rock, branch, and the damp dirt and grass.

Ty had felt bored and the ranch was deserted so she decided to take Boone on a ride to rid of the aggravating thoughts prodding at her mind. Her skin felt tingly and the points of her fingertips felt ready to shock anything that touched them.

A cigarette hung loose from her damp lips and left a trail of smoke in the foggy air, the altitude of the mountains making her ears pop every so often.

The sun was hidden behind the clouds and the wind was a nice chip at her complexion, the skin under her Stetson rising to a warm pink.

Her hips moved with every step Boone made and the nice rhythm soothed the anxiety in her bones. She reminded herself that she was fine, everyone was fine.

Jensen leaving was no big deal so she wondered why she felt so different. He was simply a guy amongst the people in the world around her but yet he occupied her mind like some fucking gold coin.

She scoffed, causing the cigarette to puff out a larger cloud of smoke in its wake. Her eyes made to roll but she stopped herself when her ears caught a slight whimper from her right.

The only thing around for miles was trees and more trees so the possibility of there being an animal ready to attack was high. But the whimper wasn't one of a predator, more like one of suffering.

Boone halted in his footsteps as his ears filtered back, having heard the same whimpers. Her eyebrows drew together and she slowly slid down Boone's side, her boots landing in the dirt which branded her footsteps.

Her palm glided over Boone's neck and she shushed him. "Stay, Boone." She whispered calmly, leaving his side as she ventured into the foggy abyss, throwing the butt of her cigarette into a puddle of brown water as she walked.

She stood still in the middle of a trail and listened intently, her hands planted on her waist while she waited. When she heard the faint whimper again, she trudged toward the direction, careful not to trip over any logs or stray branches in her way.

She glanced around the area and her eyes landed on a hint of white in a hollow log, the sight making her drop to her knees in the damp ground. Her eyes narrowed when she spotted the small pup cradled in on itself until she noticed the crimson color coating its side, her hands reaching out eagerly to assess the small animal.
