I wake up slowly, the soft morning light slipping through the blinds and casting a pale glow across the room. My body aches, the soreness a delicious reminder of what happened yesterday. I shift under the covers, my legs tangled in the sheets, and a flush of heat spreads through me as the memory of Lorenzo's touch, his hands on my skin, floods my mind. I can still feel him—his grip on my hips, the way he pressed me against James' desk, the hunger in his kiss. It was aggressive, passionate, and exactly what I wanted.

I close my eyes again, trying to will myself back to sleep, to fall into the dream I was having just moments ago. It was one of those dreams that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, leaving you disoriented when you wake. I was with him—Lorenzo—again. In my dream, we were alone, somewhere dark and intimate, his hands everywhere, his lips against my skin. The dream was intense, the heat between us palpable, and it left me feeling needy, my body craving more of him.

I roll over, pressing my face into the pillow, trying to shake the lingering desire. My heart is still racing, my body still humming with want, but I force myself to take a deep breath, to steady the thoughts racing through my head. I can't get carried away—not again.

This is part of the plan, I remind myself. Stick to the plan.

The thought sobers me, pulls me back from the edge of where my emotions threaten to take me. I have to stay focused, keep my feelings in check. As much as I enjoy Lorenzo, as much as I crave him, this...thing between us is just one piece of something larger. I can't afford to let myself get swept up in it. I can't lose sight of what I'm really after.

But then, the way he looked at me yesterday, the desperation in his kiss, the way he needed me—it made me feel powerful, like I had control over him. And maybe I do. Maybe that's all this needs to be—power, control, passion. The lines between want and need blur so easily with him.

Before my hand can drift beneath the covers to offer me a little bit of relief from the dream I had just woken from, the door creaks open, pulling me from my thoughts, and I lift my head just in time to see my roommate, Alex, poking her head into the room. She's got that sly smile on her face, the one she always wears when she thinks she knows something she's not supposed to.

"Well, well, well," she says, stepping into the room and leaning against the doorframe. "Look at you, still in bed this late. I don't suppose this has anything to do with why you came home so late last night?"

I smirk, sitting up slowly and pulling the covers tighter around me. "What makes you think that?"

"Oh, please," Alex laughs, walking over to the edge of my bed and sitting down. She leans in, her eyes narrowing as if she's inspecting me. "You've got that look."

"What look?" I ask, amused.

"You know the look. Like you've been thoroughly...well, you know."

I let out a laugh, shaking my head. "You're ridiculous."

"And you're not denying it," she shoots back, a triumphant grin on her face. She pulls something from behind her back—a slice of toast—and hands it to me. "Here. You probably need the energy after whatever you got up to last night."

I roll my eyes but take the toast from her, nibbling on the edge. "I'm fine," I say between bites. "Better than fine, actually."

"I bet," Alex says, leaning back on her elbows. "So, are you going to tell me what happened, or do I have to guess?"

I pause for a moment, my mind flashing back to the day before, to the heat of Lorenzo's hands on my body, the way he'd looked at me like he was starving, like I was the only thing that could satisfy him. I can't help but smile, the memory too vivid to ignore.

"I...had a good day," I say vaguely, not offering more than that.

"A good day?" Alex repeats, raising an eyebrow. "That's it?"

"That's all you're getting," I tease, pushing her playfully. "Trust me, I've never been better."

Alex gives me a knowing look but doesn't press further, which I'm grateful for. She doesn't need to know the details, and besides, it's not like she would understand what's really going on. She sees things on the surface—Lorenzo and I, the chemistry, the attraction—but she doesn't see the bigger picture. No one does.

As Alex chatters on about her plans for the day, I find myself drifting back to thoughts of Lorenzo. He's been avoiding me for weeks, and now, out of nowhere, he's all over me again. It's exactly what I wanted. It's exactly what I needed. But that doesn't mean I can get comfortable. I can't let myself believe that this is anything more than what it is.

Stick to the plan, I remind myself again, though this time it's harder to keep the thought in focus. He's getting under my skin in a way I didn't expect, and that's dangerous.

But I know what I'm doing. I have to.

For now, I'll keep playing the game, letting him think he's in control. But I know the truth. I'm the one pulling the strings. I'm the one deciding how this all plays out.

Whatever happens next, it's all part of the plan.

And I never lose.
