8.30am Monday morning.

Violet was in Caption Andersen's office, like any another Monday morning. With her laptop, a couple of files and two coffees in hand.

Every Monday Violet had a meeting with the caption to discuss any important manners that needed to be done during the coming week. Any cases requesting Violet's assistance on before they went to court, requests from detectives for information on cases etc.

Violet was always in the caption's office at 8.30am on the dot, with a cappuccino for the caption Andersen and a mocha coffee for herself.

"These need to be signed by you before I send them to the District Attorney's Office". Violet said, while handing over 4 case files over to caption Anderson.

They had started their weekly meeting not too long ago, taking the time to enjoy their fresh coffee and make small talk about their weekend. Caption Andersen always loved Violet's coffee. Every sip she took, just confirmed buying her that coffee machine was a great decision.

"Remind me again why you are the one bring these to me to sign and not the detectives assigned to the case?" Anderson asked, drinking from her fresh coffee and giving Violet a knowing look before looking through the case files and signing where needed.

"Because I found more evidence in relation to these cases".

Anderson looked up from signing and give Violet a look. The look she gave others when she knows they were hiding something.

"And it would be quicker if I gave them to you now to sign, then give them back to Miles and Jones. The cases would just sit at their desks for a week before they get them signed and sent. I'm just moving things along faster." Violet replied, looking down and tracing the side of her laptop where she was making her notes from the meeting. Violet know that she should have given the files back to the detectives to get them signed.

Andersen looked at Violet with a knowing look. She knows how much Violet disliked some of the detective's disorganised ways. Especially detectives Miles and Jones. Before she could respond the pair heard a knock on the open door.

The pair turned and looked up to find a man standing in front on them. Standing at attention.

"Can I help you?" Anderson asked him, before going back to signing one of the files.

"Officer John Nolan reporting for duty?" The man now known as John Nolan said.

Violet had to hide her smile, knowing that this must be one of the three new rookies and by the looks of it, he only now released that he may have been punked.

"Did you get punked, Officer Nolan?" Caption Andersen asked him.

"No, ma'am. I just -" He didn't look confident in his answer, Violet thought.

'Mm-hmm' Andersen started, before she pulled out one of the files she had on her desk. It was his file Violet realised.

"Your file confuses me, Officer Nolan. Penn State. Pre-law. But then twenty years in construction. Well, you got solid marks at the Academy. You certainly have a work ethic. Cholesterol level I've never seen in a rookie." Caption Andersen stated to the officer as she read through his personal files.

"I'm something of a pioneer." Officer Nolan replied.

Andersen quickly looked up from his file with a very serious face. One that would make anyone feel like they were in trouble. Violet just looked down and started making her list of things that she needed to do today. Feeling the awkwardness in the room grow.
