Violet has always been known by everyone around her, as the quiet and shy girl. The girl who couldn't look a person in the eye for more than a second.Who preferred to spend her time in her freezing office, by herself then be around others. Never the one to socialise unless she had no other choice.
Just the thought of talking to new people made her want to hide in the conner and lock the door. Social Anxiety can be a bitch.
It was one of the benefits of her job. Being a criminal and technical analyst for the LAPD at Mid-Wilshire. Detectives and sometimes senior officers would only call her if it was an emergency. She mostly only talked to the caption or the sergeants.
She had the ability to make any conversation under five minutes and if the conversation changed, that wasn't in relations to work, she was able to sneak away. Being 5.5 and small came in handy when needed.
Only a small number of people know the real Violet. She was still the shy, quiet girl that everyone else know. But they also know her as the girl who always sees light in the darkness, the glass being half full type of person. Well she tries to be, some days it's harder than others.
When she is around the people she trusts the most, she is the sarcastic, baking loving genius and single mother of twin boys (who at times, could be more than a handful) and would do anything to keep the ones she loves safe.
She is also the most organised and OCD person you could ever meet. Having a routine, (down to the minute) and everything having a place, helped keep her anxiety down. From what days she does the laundry, goes grocery shopping, to her everyday routine.
She would wake up at 5am, make her smoothie. Then she would get changed to start her home fitness routine until 6am. She even had a roster on the wall for what excises and workouts to do on what day.
From 6-6.45am she would have her shower and get ready for the day ahead. And yes, she did have a certain way that she showered, gets dressed and does her makeup.
From 6.45 – 7am she would wake Alexander and Benjamin up and get their clothes on the end of their beds and their bags ready for school. As the boys are 3, they were able to dress themselves, mostly anyway.
Some mornings they would walk into the kitchen were Violet would be making them breakfast, with a shirt on the wrong way or have their underwear outside, over their pants. It has happened before, more than once.
Breakfast was from 7 – 7.15am, which for Violet including cleaning the kitchen and any another room in the house that wasn't clean. Everything she's ever owned had a place where it belonged. The love of having OCD.
Then from 7.15 – 7.30am was going through the list (yes, she had a physical list at the front door) to make sure everyone had everything they needed and that the house was locked.
Then it was the school run. With the boys only being 3, they were still in preschool.
She was lucky that there was a great one across the road from the station. So close that she could park in the parking complex at work and walk the boys across the road to the preschool. A lot of children that attended the preschool/day-care had parents that were police officers or worked for the department. So they were open earlier and closed later than any other in the area.
By 7.50am she was in her office, turning on her many computer screens and then making her first coffee of the day. Ready to start by 8am.
And yes, she had a Nespresso machine and a mini fridge in her office.
It was a gift from Caption Anderson and the sergeants, on Violets one year anniversary at working at Mid-Wilshire.
To say Violet was good at her job would be an understatement. Within her first year, she helped detectives solve 36% of their cold cases. Mid-Wilshire's arrest rates (that went to court and were charged or convicted) increased from 67% to 84%.
When she first meet Sergeant Grey, he described her as a copy of Spencer Raid and Penelope Garcia in one.
Violet was confused by the comparison as she had never heard of them. After Grey explained, She could understand the comparison but wasn't about to go home and watch the show when she saw enough murder scenes (via photo and video evidence) at work. Besides, she didn't want to risk Alexander and Benjamin walking into the room when she was watching it.
Most of her days at work would consist of her hiding in her freezing office by herself. Finding and sending evidence or reports to Sergeants and/or detectives when requested. Going through arrest reports completed by officers to make sure that everything was in order.
She would occasionally get so lost in her screens full of information that she would forget to take breaks and eat her lunch. Something even after all these years, she hasn't been able to break that bad habit.
And today would be no different.
Well, that's not entirely true.Today was Rookie Day.
