Chapter 59

This chapter contains how Nikolaus and Snow survived after jumping off the cliff.

I slowly opened my eyes as a bright light greeted me, and for a moment, I wasn't sure if I was awake or still dreaming. Am I really alive? Or is this just a dream trying to make me feel better?

I tried to move, but my whole body felt numb, like I wasn't in control anymore. Panic started to build inside me, but I couldn't do anything. I didn't know what was going on, and my mind was racing to figure it out. The only thing I could move were my eyes and lips. I focused on them, using all my strength to speak, to make any sound, anything to let them know that I was already awake.

"Snow..." If I was truly alive and had survived, the first thing I called for was my wife.

I started searching the area with my eyes, desperate to find her, but all I could see was a bright white light surrounding me, making me feel as if I were inside a hospital room.

Where's Snow? Where is my wife? Why isn't she here with me, by my side, like she always is?

I tried to focus, hoping to catch a glimpse of her familiar face or hear her comforting voice, but the emptiness around me only deepened my fear. The silence felt heavy, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was very wrong. I needed her with me, I needed to know she was okay and that she had survived too.

"Oh my God! You're awake!" I suddenly heard an old woman's voice enter the room. "Come here! He's awake!" She sounded so happy when she called to someone. Is it Snow?

"Is he?" I heard an old man's voice, and in that moment, my hope that it was Snow seemed to fade away. Suddenly, tears started to fall from my eyes as I struggled to understand what was happening. The fear of being alone in this strange place washed over me, and I felt lost without her. I wish I hadn't woken up if she wasn't beside me. But I need to know what happened to her.

"W-Where's... my wife?" I asked them when they looked closer at me to check on my condition. They even called for a doctor. I may not be able to move my body, but I could clearly see how the old woman changed her expression in response to what I said. "Where is she? Where's my wife?" I asked again, even though I felt like I was struggling to breathe. I didn't know if it was because I was still weak or because of the situation, not knowing where my wife was or what her condition might be.

"Don't worry, dear, she's alive and safe." I burst into tears when I heard that she was alive and okay. Those words wrapped around me like a warm blanket, bringing me the relief I really needed. Because I don't know what to do anymore with my life, with this second life without her.

"C-Can I see her? Please, can I see my wife?" All my life, this is the first time I have ever pleaded with someone. They looked at each other and smiled when they looked back at me.

"You can, but not now with your current condition. You need to heal first before you see her," the old woman answered, which made me frown. "That was her request to us." She added.

"She asked me to give this to you," the old man said as he handed me a small envelope. "Read that when we leave."

When they finally left the room, I immediately opened the envelope and saw a small piece of paper. I took it out and quickly read what was written on it.

Hon,

Those two people with you are close friends of the ones who saved our lives and are currently with me, so you can trust them. I wish I could say I'm doing well, but the truth is I'm not okay and still healing, just like you. We need to keep our distance for each other's safety right now, even though it's hard. Let's promise to meet again when both of us are okay, stronger than before. I will be waiting for you, no matter how long it takes. I love you, Nikolaus, and I believe we will get through this together.
