Chapter 58

As soon as we reached my dad's rest house, my eyes went straight to Don Timothy. This place wasn't just a normal rest house, it was where the final war against the Jones Cartel happened. I could still remember that day clearly. Nikolaus and I had been trapped, with nowhere to run. Our only choice was to jump off the edge of the cliff, and we barely survived. The memory of that jump, and how close we were to dying, stayed with me, reminding me of how serious that day had been.

"Where are-" I started to ask, but the words caught in my throat when I saw Mr. Lim and Tamara hanging on the edge of the cliff. They were tied up with ropes, and those ropes were being held by Don Timothy's men. Just one wrong move, and they might let go of the ropes, causing them to fall down the cliff.

Owen was already here, kneeling on the ground with a gun pointed at his head. While Lucia was already in Don Timothy's hands. When I looked at Owen, I gave him a simple nod. It was a small gesture, but it carried a lot of meaning in this situation.

"Lucia is here. You have her already," I said and looked at Don Timothy. "So let them go." I added and I was referring to the three of them.

"That easy?" he said and laughed louder, which made me clench my jaw. "There's no fun if we end it now. Why don't we play a game?" he added with a grin. I had already expected this from him, considering how this old man always seemed to enjoy dragging things out and adding his own twist to any situation.

"What else do you want?" I said in a firm voice.

"It's not about what I want, it's about a game." He said. "Hold those ropes for one hour, and then I'll set them all free."

"Are you crazy?!" Owen intervened and tried to stand up, but Don Timothy's men hit him with a gun on his back, forcing him to kneel again on the ground.

"Just one hour and you'll set them free," I repeated, ignoring Owen. "Make sure you follow through this time, as Lucia is already in your hands."

"But the question is, do you think you can?" He smirked at me.

"Don't underestimate me," I said confidently.

I started walking toward Don Timothy's men to get the ropes, planning to continue holding them for one hour. I had no choice but to agree with what he wanted. I can't fight him alone. We're outnumbered compared to them.

"Don't do this," I heard Mr. Lim's serious voice. I couldn't see him and Tamara clearly, just their heads as they hung onto the edge of the cliff.

"Shut up." I replied firmly and grabbed the ropes from Don Timothy's men, holding them tightly in both hands.

As soon as the ropes were securely in my hands, I closed my eyes, bracing myself against the heavy weight pulling on them. The pain in my stomach and shoulder wounds grew worse, but I ignored it, focusing on holding on. I could also feel the rough texture of the ropes against my skin. But I stood firm, holding the ropes tightly with all my strength, doing everything I could to save Mr. Lim, Tamara, and even Owen.

I don't think I can last for one hour, but I just can't give up and let them fall.

"Are they heavy?" I heard Don Timothy's voice again from behind me. Hearing his voice only added to the heavy tension I was already feeling.

But I chose to ignore him completely and concentrated on my goal. My only thought was to save both of them and make sure they got out of here safely. I couldn't let anything distract me now, not even his comments. I tightened my hold on the ropes and focused all my energy on holding them, knowing that one hour was just quick.

Don Timothy really tested my patience and focus. The next thing he did was order his men to get a hose and point it directly at me, getting me all wet with cold water to distract me. The water made my hands slippery, making it hard to hold on to the ropes. I could feel the water running down my face, blurring my vision, but I refused to let it beat me.
