Gunshots rang in the air, piercing through the peaceful silence like a knife of chaos. Blood spattered the once pristine carpets and white walls and bodies thumped heavily to the ground, the echoes of their final pleas and cries disappearing from their lips.
A gun was lowered and feet moved, a dark brown hat firmly placed on a head as a figure stepped over the threshold and paced away from the premises.
More footsteps.
Black high-heeled boots, stepping over and tip toeing around bodies like a graceful dance.
A cupboard door is creaked open.
A face appears.
Slim and pale, with bold red lips and fashionable black hat angled at just the right way. A fishnet veil is removed from the front of the woman's eyes. Piercing blue eyes stare down at the cowering girl. The woman's head tilts, her posture somehow still perfect as she bends down to get a closer look at the small girl, authority rippling off of her in waves.
The girl in question has tears streaming down her cheeks, and a small hand still clamped tightly over her mouth as she was desperately instructed to do. Her horrified eyes widen as the woman reaches out to her, and she squeezes them shut in fear. Her body tenses more when she feels the woman's cold hand on her head, but she looked up in confusion as the woman's hand gently strokes her long locks of hair. The woman smiles slightly as the girls sniffles cease. There is a lump in the girl's throat, but nevertheless, she talks around it meekly.
"W-who are you?" She croaks out. The woman thinks. Even in this situation, where the girl is in the most vulnerable position, her tone still carries hints of fierceness and protectiveness. Her small eyes gaze into the woman's bright blue ones, and behind all the the tears, all the terror and fright in them, a small fire still blazes.
"Don't worry little one. You're safe." The woman says, avoiding the question. The girl looks at her, curiosity entering her expression.
"I'm here to help." The woman continues, slowly removing her hand from the girl's hair and straightening up again.
"What's going to happen to me?" The girl asks.
"Don't worry about that, darling." The woman says soothingly.
"Who are you?" The girl repeats, a little stronger this time.
The woman thinks again and hesitates. She's not willing to disclose this information, or anything about herself until the girl is safely secured at the Commission.
"You'll find out soon enough, ok? What's your name?" The woman dodges again.
The girl hesitates as well. She doesn't know whether to trust this unfamiliar person, peeping in through her cupboard door.
"Stellar." She whispers timidly.
"Stellar." The woman repeats. Shivers run down Stellar's spine hearing her name come out of the woman's mouth. The woman smiles again, warmer this time.
"Why don't you come with me, Stellar? I can help you."
Stellar looks up at this woman, at her extended hand with her perfectly painted red nails. She hesitates again, then slowly reaches her small hand to latch onto the woman's. The woman smiles again.
"That's it dear. Let's go."
As the woman leads the small girl out of the now wreck of a house, avoiding the bodies on the floor by leading her out the back way, she looks back at the girl. She is no longer crying, although there are tear tracks running down her face. But what the woman is more interested in is the small golden and purple sparks of light following her like threads of glowing balls, floating behind her for a few seconds before evaporating in the cool night air. The woman smiles again, looking back. She's may not be sure about a lot of things, especially in a job like hers, but she's sure of this.
This girl is perfect.
