I jumped and sent the arrow flying through the forest. I turned to Bane chuckling behind me.
"Bane! You scared the hell out of me. Dang, now I have to go get it, I'll be back."
Wait! You can't go out on your own we must- Bane went silent and wryly looked over to Ember.
"Why can't I go? I mean it's just right there I'll just get it," I say half laughing. Why was it such a big deal?
Scarlet that area is too dense for us to follow you closely must not go out on your own. Bane begins to say but keeps look at Ember, for approval? It looks like he's looking for approval.
"Is there something I don't know? Guys?" I ask them. Are they hiding something from me?
Scarlet we didn't want to tell you, at least not yet. All of the other dragons know. Ember begins. Your grandmother was a dragon rider, she had dragon's blood. She had your mother and she wasn't a rider as much as it killed her your mother was put up for adoption. However, she never stopped watching over you and your family. When you were born she asked me to protect you, I'm not sure how but she said she just knew you would be a rider. Your grandmother knew she was close to getting caught and left us with instructions to watch over you. Your grandmother our leader, and believe me she was a good one. She could make not only our cove obey her but other dragons from outside the cove too. When she died passed down her title to you.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I mutter under my breath, I'm sure they still could hear me though.
We were going to tell you but we wanted to wait. Bane interjects
"You can finish explaining later, I'm going to go get that arrow," I say.
I'm coming. Bane says. I knew it was pointless to argue, so I sighed and walked off into the forest with Bane following behind me.
.....
Aaron's POV
An arrow landed at my feet. I almost screamed, one more step and it would have been in my foot. I picked it up and inspected it. It was a strong arrow, not dragon arrow strong but strong. Rustling in the bushes, made me drop the arrow and whip out my bow and notch my own arrow. When my target came into view I let it fly, but it was too late to realize my mistake.
It was a girl, around age most likely. She had long dark hair, dark eyes, she was tall, lean. She looked intimidating but at the same time kind. My arrow was aimed for her forehead but she moved out of the way and it hit the tree behind her. She seemed really startled.
"What was that for?!" She shouts and looks at the arrow then me.
"Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to..." I stumble over my words. Oh jeez, I could have killed this girl, what if the arrow had hit...gosh I'm an idiot.
"It's fine no harm is done see." She smiled a bit and put her hand to her forehead as proof it was still there or something. Her eyes fell to the arrow on the ground.
"You found my arrow," She walked over and picked it up. She looked up at me again and there was a strange look on her face. A look of recognition maybe? Why was she so far out here? Was she taken by that rider? I was about to ask her who she was but I didn't get a chance. Something big was coming my way, this far from the society it must be a dragon.
"Get behind me." I grabbed the girls wrist and pulled her behind me. She reluctantly followed. I reached back and notched a dragon arrow in my bow.
"Wait! You don't understand its-" before she could continue, I cut her off.
"No you don't understand, a dragon is coming our way, it's no use running just stay behind me." A shadow came close to the edge and I let the arrow go. I blur of speed leaped up and stopped the arrow mid-air. It was the girl she stopped the arrow. She knocked it off it's intended course. I saw a red drip down to the ground the arrow nicked her hand. I was so surprised at what just happened I didn't see behind her. The dragons green eyes narrowed and focused on me, it snapped its jaw. The girl threw out a hand stopping the beast in its place.
"Bane, don't," she said the dragon seemed to calm down but it didn't take its cold gaze away.
"You?" I say. I was questioning myself more than her. This was the dragon rider everyone was so afraid of, she was so... young. She looked like she was my age maybe a year younger. Her gaze changed. I was so careless I didn't even realize the flame on the side of her neck.
"Who are you?" I demand.
"That is none of your business. Aaron," My face must have shown it all because she answered my next question.
" As if I didn't know you. You're the society prodigy killing dragons isn't that right? Why are you here?" She crossed her arms and waited for my answer.
"I've been tracking you when I was to find you I was too-" I stopped and lunged forward. My mission was to get rid of her, I was hoping to catch her off guard. She easily ducked under the attack and stuck out her foot making me lose my balance in the process. God, she was fast. She smiled at me on the ground. Quickly I got up and threw blow after blow I couldn't land a single hit, not even getting close she was too fast. I lunged for her once more and this time she stayed put. She caught the collar of my shirt. She lifted me up, off the ground at least a foot. She used one arm, there was no sign of struggle on her face. It's was like I weighed nothing to her. My face was beading with sweat but the girl was relaxed.
"I'll ask you again, why are you here? How many men do you have with you? How many people know about me? How did you find me?" She questioned not losing her grip. I stayed silent.
"Fine be that way, you're going to regret that later. Sorry about this." She says it like she meant it. The last thing I saw was her fist before I slipped into darkness.
