Wait what just happened? Did she just say, Granddaughter?
"Grandma??" I say sheepishly. The woman nods her head and smiles even more if that is even possible.
"H-how is this possible. Ember told me you were killed by society army men." I say stuttering.
"I didn't die but they captured me. They had me and the others in that awful prison for almost 8 years. Until you saved us so thank you." She held pride and admiration in her eyes.
"I never caught your name," I say feeling a little bad for not knowing my own grandmother's name.
"Alexis Haven, but you can call me Lexi. Grandma makes me feel old," She laughs. We continued talking for at least another hour until realization hit me.
"Oh My God! We have to tell Ember. You have no idea how much she missed you. She talked about you all the time. about how brave you are and how you are her best friend," I stand up.
"Honey, Ember recognized me the moment I got out I may have put on a few years but my scent remains the same," Lexi explains to me.
"That makes a lot of sense,"
"Could you take me to her, I haven't really had a chance to catch up with her yet," Lexi asks me.
"Yeah of course," I say and lead her out of the cave to the lake where I saw Ember last.
"Ember!" I shouted she looked my way, and I turned to Lexi "Right there"
"Thank you," She says before walking towards Ember. Ember brought her head down so that my grandma could hug her. They both were happy, they started talking. I left them to catch up with each other. I went back to the save for the night.
.....
You are crazy, Full on crazy, Ember says. My grandma or Lexi chuckles a little. In the time she has been here, I feel like I've known her my whole life. I had told her about my mom and dad. She nodded and gave me an understanding look as if she went through it too.
"She gets it from me," My grandmother says. Which in a way is true she was known for her unconventional ideas.
"Ember, if we can just create a peace treaty it would best for everyone," I say. Ember has been set on avoiding the society at all costs.
They have already crossed us too many time how will this time be any different. Ember says
"If we could make a deal with them... Both sides would just stay out of each other's way it would be as simple as that." My grandma adds into the conversation.
I can't believe I'm saying this. But fine we'll go and see if they will listen but you better believe I am coming. Ember says finally agreeing.
"Thank you, Ember. We'll leave tomorrow." I say.
.....
Aaron's POV
I wonder if I made a mistake.
With scarlet. Was she right? Are we wrong?
Were dragons the same as they were before?
They did nothing to me the entire time I was there...
I had intended to take scarlet to just talk with my father but... No Scarlet is wrong.
News of the dragon rider escaping prison reached me 2 days ago. It didn't matter my father had a few tricks up his sleeves that I knew he wasn't afraid to use.
.....
Scarlett POV
Peace, that's what you want. Don't do anything stupid. Make the peace treaty that's all.
I told myself over and over. I wanted it to be true. I really just wanted revenge. 10 years those dragon riders were locked up. Countless dragons have died.
I'm on Embers back flying closer and closer to town. We fly above the clouds and stop right above the society capital building.
"Land on the roof," I tell Ember. She dives down and with my advanced hearing, I could hear people screaming on the ground. I slide off Ember.
"Stay here, okay," I say. Ember groans still my happy about my plan. I run off the edge of the building and catch a tree branch on the way down. I swing myself over and drop down right in front of the doors. Before I could even knock, dragon hunters have surrounded me.
"Ugh, I just want to talk!" These guys were getting very annoying.
"Then talk." One man said their weapons still trained on me.
"Not to you. To Mr. Alaric." Still glaring at me they pushed open the door and lead me to an office. One of the guards pushed the door open. Inside I saw my parents, Aaron, and Mr. William.
.....
Aaron's POV
I was talking with my father and Scarlet's parents when the doors swung open and in walked Scarlet. She looked different. Her bow and arrows were strapped to her back, she wore dark skinny jeans with black combat boots. She wore a red top with a black leather jacket over it. Her eyes were filled with fire and it looked like rage. Her long hair was swept to a side but it was the side without her mark. Scarlet walked in with such confidence, with her head held high she glared at her father and then at me.
"Pleasure to see you all again," Scarlet said sarcastically. Her mother stepped forward to hug her daughter but Scarlet stepped away looking hurt.
"I'm sorry I'm only here to talk to one person," Scarlet says and she glances at her father then to mines.
My father stood.
"What is it you wish to speak about." My father's voice steady and formal.
"A peace treaty," Scarlet says. My father doesn't seem surprised.
"What do you propose?" My father asks.
"You stay out of the dragons business and we stay out of yours. No more hunters and we won't bother you, in fact, you'll never see us again. Leave us alone, we leave you alone. That's all I ask."
"See now I would like to do that but I can't" My father pauses, Scarlet shows no emotion."I have a feeling that you are needed back at your camp. The dragon riders are dying."
....
Scarlet's POV
"What?" I ask.
"You are so foolish. Why did you think the guards at the prison let you go? They were all sick and if I'm lucky hopefully you've caught that sickness when you entered that basement. Soon everyone that you rescued will be dead, you might take a little longer but you'll be coughing up your organs within the week," His gaze turns cold. I lunge at him. I grab the collar of his shirt.
"You are lying,"I grit my teeth. My parents, Aaron, or the guards make no move to stop me.
"Am I?" William Alaric says. I release him and he falls back into his seat.
"They aren't dying, they were fine when I left them," I say, not wanting to believe a thing he was saying. But deep down I knew he was telling the truth.
"Well not yet, soon though," He says smiling wickedly."But I am a generous man. I'll make you a deal, I'll give the antidote in exchange for something you love and after you will never come back. Leave my land and never return," He snaps his fingers, and a guard brings forward a vial with purple liquid.
"Smash the vial and everyone that breathes in the air will be cured. I also I would burn anything you took down in the basement that fungus is all over it and you wouldn't even know it, just as a friendly tip," Then he hands over the vial without a second thought. Something is up.
"What about the second part?" I ask.
"As for thing you love I've taken care off that. Promise that you will never return." He says
"I promise to never to return so long as I live. What do you want me to give you?" I ask. William Alaric only smiles. I hear Ember roar, and then I hear a loud thud.
