Scarlet POV

My impression of Aaron, an arrogant, hot-headed, egotistic idiot. Also big dork. I had let him out of the rock pit and let him walk around camp. The first few days he had stayed away from me, and all the dragons. He stayed by the lake, most of the time, tried to fish and failed miserably. I was up in the trees watching him, laughing to myself. Eventually, I made my way to a tree right above him. He would dive into the water trying to get catch a fish but he would come up soaking wet and carrying nothing. I laughed out loud he looked up at me.

"You're never going to catch a fish, not like that." I hopped down and landed in front of him.

"And you have a better idea?" Aaron asks.

"Lure them in all you have to do is be patient. And you'll need a bow and arrow or a really sharp rock." I say. I always keep my bow strapped to my back now. I notched an arrow and waited for a fish to swim by.

"Are you really going to shoot a fish?"

"No, I set a trap nearby," I say laughing. I take the arrow and put it back in my quiver. I show Arron over to the trap where a single fish has found its way into. This time when notched my arrow I let loose. I picked the fish out of the water and handed it to Aaron

"What I do I do now?" Aaron asks eyeing the fish. I smile a bit.

"You cook it." I respond, giving a "duh" face. He smiled at my comment, it was the first time he had smiled since he got here. I ate dinner with him that night. We didn't talk much but it wasn't tense between us anymore. We were sitting quietly by the fire and the flame illuminated his face. If I didn't know everything about him killing dragons I would say that Aaron was handsome. His eyes were a light brown, he has dark hair, brown but nearly black, definitely easy on the eyes. I got up for a moment to add more twigs to the fire.

"Can I ask you a question?" Aaron asks.

"That was a question..." I snicker a bit and Aaron rolls his eyes.

"Okay then, but who are you?" I feel like I've heard this before.

"My name is Scarlet Haven, 18, dragon rider, nice to meet you," I say sticking out my hand. Aaron hesitates for a moment before shaking it.

"Aaron Alaric, 19, son of William Alaric, likewise," He says genuinely smiling.

The next day Aaron was comfortable talking to me but still stayed away from the dragons. He just has to see that dragons are no different from people. I had a thought if I could get Aaron to believe that dragons meant no harm than others would believe it too. I needed to take him flying.

.....

Aaron's POV

How did I get in this position? I asked myself. I agreed to go flying with Scarlet, in the air, on a dragon.

"You look ready to pee your pants," Scarlet smiles and hops on Ember."You coming?" Scarlet extended her hand. I nodded, took her hand, and she helped pull me onto Ember. Ember's scales didn't make for a great seat don't get me wrong her scales are beautiful but they're hard as rock. I lost my balance when Ember stood up and had to grab Scarlet's arm to keep from falling off. We soared above the clouds, we were so high up. I looked down below us and could see the tree canopy. The clouds above us were close enough to touch. It was a whole different world up here. We flew for a while before landing back on the ground. I enjoyed flying, I tried not to show it but I think scarlet caught on at the end. Maybe I could help her.

"Scarlet I could to take you to my father, you can talk to him. Would you want that?" I ask. Scarlet's face lights up.

"I would love that," She responds.

"Then tomorrow morning, we'll go."

"Okay, see you in the morning" We went our separate ways and I found a place to sleep for the night.

.....

Scarlet's POV

I don't trust him. Ember states when she saw me walking back to my cave.

We need to, this is our best chance of getting all of those dragon riders out, and creating peace I say trying to reason with Ember. Wait did I just...

Ember snickered You've finally have a strong enough bond. To speak like a dragon.

I'm in your head, like how you talk to me?

Yes, all riders can speak with the dragon they form a bond with and usually only the dragon they bond with.

So then I can't talk to Bane or Mizu like this?

Well dragon's blood makes it easier to form bonds you might be able to talk to all dragons or maybe not

That's amazing and we got so off topic. I stop speaking with my head and actually use my voice this time.

"I'm going to go with Aaron whether you approve or not. I trust that he'll stay true to his word. When I'm gone you'll be in charge. Now go to sleep."

.....

It was a 4-day walk. Aaron and I stopped only to eat or sleep. We made it to his house or more like a mansion. I got some weird looks when I walked in but Aaron reassured me that everything would be fine. Aaron walked behind me and told me which ways to his father's office. I opened the doors to his father's office and looked at the empty desk and room.

"Aaron where is-" Suddenly something hard hit me in the back of the head. A bag came over my head and everything went black.

.....

When I awoke I was sitting in a chair, my hands were tied behind the chair, my legs were too. They used steel chains not just rope but metal chains. Great, this is fantastic. If I tried I could definitely break the chains but the odds were there were guard everywhere. I looked around, I was in a bare room the walls were stone. There was one window it was high and too small for me fit through. The bastard betrayed me, if I ever get my hand on him he's going to wish he was never born. The door swung open and in stepped 3 men and another one was tied up with a sack over his head. They brought the tied up man I to the corner and 2 men walked toward me.

"What's your name sweetheart?" the man asks as he sneered.

"What's your name?" He says more forcefully.

"Go to hell," I respond. He smiles as if expecting it.

"Uncover our guest." they pull back as bag over the man's head. Allowing his face to be seen. I get a good look at him and I realize who it is.

"Dad?" I say.
