Scarlet POV

My mind went to Ember. I ran to the closest open window and saw Ember surrounded by Society Dragon riders. Without a second thought, I jumped through the window and whipped out my bow and shot the nearest hunter in the arm making him drop his weapon. I kicked it away and knocked him out. Ember didn't look good at all she had multiple dragon arrows in her body.

I called for Bane and Beast, luckily they responded. Ember was losing a lot of blood. Anyone that came close to me or Ember was quickly knocked out. A gust of wind came and I realized Bane and Beast were here. Ember was fighting to keep her eyes open. Bane carried Ember and flew away. I shot one more guard before boarding Beast. William Alaric stood at the window. He was watching and he was smiling. He did this.

I notched another arrow and took aim. I let the arrow fly, it hit, and sunk into his shoulder just to the left of my intended mark.

.....

When I arrived the dragon riders were, well some of them, maybe half were very sick. The others were confused and trying to tend to this sick. The sick were on the ground with someone looking after them. Ember was immediately taken to Mizu. I pulled out the vial and opened the top and took a whiff. It smelled just like water. This wasn't a cure.

The dragon riders are dying.

And I have no way to save them

I ran to my grandma's cave. She was sitting with her back to a rock. She looked pale.

"Lexi," I voice very quietly. How could I be so stupid instead of beating myself up over it, I held her hand.

"Oh honey," she begins. She wipes away the tear that slipped out of my eye. "Don't cry, even if I'm gone I'll always be with you."

She pointed to my heart and smiled.

"Right here." She says. "No matter where you go, what you do, I will always be with you."

"I love you," I say feeling anytime she could slip away and I'll never get the chance to tell her that.

"I love you too sweetie." She tucks my hair behind my ear and brings me in for a hug. I sob into her shoulder.

.....

Some riders had passed and others just barely hanging on. There were a few who seemed to not be sick. My grandma was still breathing, still alive. She and I kept talking. I told her the fungus was the cause of the sickness.

"Scar, they must have a real antidote, you could have that fungus and you brought it to them. They would have the real thing, you were in that room with William Alaric, no way he would risk his life," Lexi begins to reason.

"They have the real thing..."

"Honey, if you can find the antidote you may be able to bring the back the others." My grandmother says even paler than when I first saw her.

"But what about you? I can't leave you," I say not wanting to leave her side.

"I'll be okay. My dragon blood will keep me alive for longer." She explains. She kisses the top of my forehead. "You go. Okay? You do it for me. Promise that you'll try to save all of those riders out there,"

"I promise," I say before giving her a last hug and standing up. I ran out of the cave in hopes to keep my grandmother's dying wish.
