Golf Ball liked a lot of things, but she didn't care much for mechanical work. Compared to the (relatively) safe fun of science, repairing a vehicle was quite complicated, messy, and, frankly, a little out of her experience level - especially given its history, originally pulled out of a junkyard and having deteriorated into a worse state by getting picked up and dropped by a cake-induced windstorm. However, Pencil had a dream that GB knew she had been dwelling over for quite a while, so it was about time to make that dream a reality... even if she wasn't old enough to give the van any real usage yet.
She just wished her supplies to actually fix the van hadn't shown up five days or so after they were scheduled to, in the very early hours of the morning.
Golf Ball and Tennis Ball huffed and groaned as they worked to push around the last part they needed, the last wheel to stick on what they unofficially considered the FreeSmart van, and immediately collapsed once they felt they had gotten it close enough. The wheel wasn't that heavy, of course - it was the fault of them having just had to push several heftier metal pieces in much the same way. Having only gotten two or so hours of sleep before the impromptu wake-up call by her associate (who was appropriately sleep-deprived too), GB was also especially ornery today, huffing and panting as she gave TB a light glare. "Well, that's everything. Do you have any knowledge of how to repair a van, TB?"
"Umm..." After a moment of hesitation, Tennis Ball breathed a deep sigh, shaking his head. "Not really, no. I might know what actually makes a vehicle run, however..."
GB just rolled her eyes at that. "Great, so we both have no idea what we're doing... I guess I'll start with the wheels, at least. I'm pretty sure I'm familiar with that process."
With that, she started to put the tires in... where she was immediately reminded of why she preferred working with the theoretical and not the physical. The lubricant she coated the tires in was coating her legs by the time she had all of them in, and made her slip and slide in the grass, and it didn't help that, by the time she managed to exchange the gas, she was now also covered in an unidentifiable oily liquid that she wished had stayed in the fuel tank it came from. There was a positive out of all this, though - replacing the engine did require lots of precise placement to make sure everything ran smoothly, something she quite enjoyed when tinkering with valves and the like. That also wasn't to say that GB was the only one pulling her weight - Tennis Ball had also pitched in to put in some new alternators and fuel cell generators, as well as taking the opportunity to give the van a fresher, sleeker coat of pink paint (though that wasn't very mechanical, he just decided it would be best to make the thing look less like a disaster), complete with the word 'Freesmart' printed right across the side in a dark shade of pink.
Once they were all finished, GB let out a little huff as she flopped down in the grass, sitting next to TB and the cans of paint he had brought with him. "Ugh, finally... TB, remind me never to accept jobs that require fixing a vehicle ever again."
"Understood..." TB smiled nervously as he used a spare cloth to wipe all the muck off of his friend's face, setting it aside once he felt she could actually see again. "Should we go inform the rest of the team that we've fixed the van?"
"It's much too early for a wake-up call..." GB yawned. "I believe we should just head back to our tent for now. I don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of getting minuscule amounts of sleep..."
"Me neither... though to be honest, I'm not in the mood to walk all the way back..."
"...hmph, you too, huh?"
