Chapter 22- Bravery and Secrecy

(~Honey's POV~)

Y/N and I wake up to the most high pitched and bone chilling scream. How did I know Y/N was up and I didn't just hear it in my head? She sits up abruptly and grabs at her chest. Her soul is reacting to it, her eyes glowing bright (s/c) in the dark as a result. "I-It's Roman." She tells me quickly.

Even before birth, a mother's soul will develop a deep bond with the soul of her kid. If that bond grows stronger as the child grows, the mother can sense when they're in deep distress or even when they're hurt. Same goes for the kid's soul being able to sense the danger to their mother's soul. It's a part of family soul bonding and it's not just limited to mothers and kids. Any family member can do it if their bond is strong enough. I have a similar soul bond with my brother's soul.

'I can get there faster-'

I teleport over to Sans' room. The scream definitely woke all of us up because Blue and Serif are now hovering over a panicked Roman. His breathing is taken in rigid gasping while his eye sockets are dark. His entire body is tense. "Roman! Roman! It's okay! We're right here!" Blue pulls Roman into his embrace and sits him upright. The kid isn't responding. He's not conscious yet. He continues to panic and even begins to struggle with my bro to push away Blue's arms.

"Brother, you have to wake up!" Serif shouts. Almost immediately afterwards, Roman woke up. White pinpricks for his pupils flicker into existence. I was a little spooked by it at first. I never realized how much his bright orange eyes had made him stand out normally. Now lacking any of their natural shape or color, his gaze looks empty. For us skeletons, our eyes actually say a lot about our soul's current status since they're directly linked to our magic.

I walk to the side of my bro's bed and sit down. "Ya alright, Kid?" I ask my youngest. Roman is still breathing heavily as he briefly glances to me. He heard me but gives me no answer. Roman instead looks up at the ceiling almost as if he were in a daze. His soul must've gotten a real scare for him to be this out of it. Blue looks a little shaken up by this as well. He states to me, "I don't know what happened. He was sleeping completely fine and then-" "It was a good ol' nightmare. He just needs to calm down for a bit. You can rest, Bro. You've already done so much with taking the twins every night. Y/N and I can handle it this time."

Sans gives me hesitant eyes for a while. I can imagine how much he had to help Y/N while I was gone. It's only natural that he'd want to help.

'I'm not trying to replace him. I could never with how much the kids look up to him.'

Sans looks down to Serif. Serif is growing more anxious by the second. He keeps grabbing at his forearms. "I suppose you're right. I know you two will take good care of them." Sans says softly. I let out a short sigh and pat my bro on his skull, "Thanks, Bro. You're the coolest." I stand back up and extend my arms out to Roman, "What do ya say, Roman? Let's go visit with Mama for a bit." Roman's trembling arms stretch out towards me and grab onto my sleeves, giving me the 'okay' to lift him up. I pick him up and let him rest on one side of me against my hip. I keep an arm wrapped around him for good measure.

With my other hand, I offer it to Serif, "C'mon Buddy, you too." Serif crawls to the edge of the bed and takes my hand once he's in reach. I say one brief goodbye to my brother, "Goodnight, Sans." "Goodnight. See you in the morning." He looks to me with a small smile but I already see he's anxiously pulling at his bandana. Taking a deep breath, I lead the children back to my room.

"Mama!" Serif lets go of my hand and runs forward immediately. He made in to the bed in two seconds flat before hugging onto Y/N. She giggles and strokes his skull, "Hello, Sweetheart~" She coaxes him to side on her right side while I take my place next to him. I never thought in my life that I'd be sharing my bed with my soulmate and a kid between us. Yet, here we are. It's quite cozy honestly. I shift Roman into my lap as I sit down.
