A monster is among us

Tessa's shot up, she didn't know where she was. The pain medicine was making her confused as she looked around the room. Beth and John bedsides her bed.

"Where... where is she?" The girl asks in a haste, "where is she? Where's my mama?"

John's face looked confused as the young girl searched for someone no longer. Beth's face dropped as she Reached forward to grab her hand

The two Duttons did there best to calm the girl down, while she yelled for her mum. A lady she'd never see again. Tessa's yells slowly came to a stop as she drifted back to sleep.

"It's a girl." John tells his wife, her tired eyes found a light glow of excitement. The tiny baby girl was placed in her arms. Evelyn moved the blanket off her face, her soft cheeks and brown hair poking out from under the blanket.

The little baby opens her eye staring up at her mum, before letting out a tiny yawn and drifting back to sleep. John kissed his wife's forehead as the two took in the newborn baby.

John stood up and walked out, returning moments later with a 16 year old Kayce, being the only child not an adult, the three other Duttons were busy, Lee at the ranch, Jamie and Beth both in uni.

"Come meet your baby sister." Evelyn tells Kayce. he walked over sitting down on the edge of the bed, she carefully placed the small baby into his cautious arms.

"She's so tiny." Kayce said in awe looking down with a smile.

"Take care of her son." John tells him, Kayce looked down, the trouble she was bound to get into being a Dutton was obvious. Right then and there he swore he would protect her. He was ready to become a big brother.

The next time she woke up the girl was a lot calmer, there was no noise. Tessa blinked as her eyes adjusted to the light, she looked around slowly. Spotting John in the sofa beside her bed.

"Daddy." The girls muttered

"Tess." Johns eyes light up, "how are you feeling?"

"Alright." She said letting her eyes close again, "did Beth leave?"

"She had to go home." John tells her

"can we go home too?" Tessa asks

"We'll have to see what the doctor says." John tells her, "just lay back and rest."

Tessa sighs, "I hate hospitals."

"Most people do Tess." John tells her, as the nurse walks in.

"How are we feeling?" She asks

"Good." Tessa nods, "am i allowed to go home now?"

"We just need to check your blood pressure. But you should be good to go after that." The nurse tells her.

Tessa and John walk down the hallway of the hospital, she'd been discharged along with the order of no school or riding for the rest of the week and to take it easy. She was also on some pretty strong antibiotics.

John wasn't convinced she was going to last a day without getting on a horse, he also knew she was going to be climbing up the walls stuck inside.

As they passed the waiting room, they were met with a familiar face reading a book.

"What're you doing here, Tate?" John asks, the by looks up at them both.

Tate takes them to Monica's room, she was laying on a bed, a doctor restring her movement in her toes. Kayce and Monica's grandpa stood watching.

"Okay, now, we're gonna take you up to radiology, when you get back, I'd like to see you eat something." The doctor tells her, as Tate climbs up onto her bed "Can you do that?"

"I'm not hungry." Monica replies

"I'd like to see you try." The doctor says, as John waves him over.

"Kayce." Tessa says, "check this out." She lifts her sleeve up pulling back the bandage to show Kayce the wound. "The doctor told me it's gonna leave a neat scar." Kayce couldn't help but chuckle.

"What did she say when she saw it." Kayce asks

"That the lady fucked it up real good. Well actually I told her you did, didn't want the girls family getting involved." Tessa tells him, "they had to put me under to re do it, got infected. Should've seen me before hand, never been in so much pain. Guys dig scars right."

"I mean chicks dig scars." Kayce tells her, "so I'm sure guys do."

"Good." Tessa smiled as John, Monica's grandpa and the doctor walked back in.

"Why don't I take Tate back to the ranch?" John suggested

"But I wanna stay with Mum." Tate tries

"This is no place for a boy." John says quietly to Kayce

"You gotta take him." Kayce agrees

"We're gonna send your mum to a CT scan, okay?" The doctor explained, "Let's go."

"Tate, you should come with me and Tess." John repeats as the wheel out Monica.

"Love you, baby." She tells him giving a quick high-five.

John pulls up out the front, the three Duttons climbing out the truck. John rather slowly.

"Are you okay?" Tessa and Tate both asks

"Yeah." John reassured the kids

"When's the last time you ate Tate?" John asks as they walk up the porch steps.

"I don't know." Tate shrugs

"What, what do you mean you don't know?" John exclaims, "Well, let's fix that."

They walk inside, John hanging up his jacket before heading to the fridge. He slightly doubles over in pain, grabbing the fridge for support.

"Stay." John orders, slowly leaving the room. "Stay here, kids."

Beth walks into the room not even a minute later, Tate confused as to who she is.

"Who are you?" Tate asks

"I'm your aunt." Beth tells her, followed by an awkward silence.

"Hungry Tate?" Tessa breaks the silence

"Kind of." Tate nods

"What do you want?" Beth asks

"What can you make?" The boy asks

"Cheese plate." Beth suggested

"Ugh." Tate screws up his nose.

"All right, I got an idea." Tessa tells him, "how about Beth takes you to see what the cowboys are having for supper?"

"Sure." Tate agrees smiling

"Thanks Tess." Beth says sarcastically as he follows Tate to the door.

"You'rere welcome." Tessa smirks, "I'm sure Rip or Walker will be there. Who knows maybe they both will."

"Smart ass." Beth snaps before shutting the door behind her.
