Ronald Acuña - "Caught Between The Bases Pt. 2"
Y/N's POV
The days following my conversation with Ronald and Ozzie were a whirlwind of emotion. I was caught in a tumult of confusion, and the pressure to make a choice was weighing heavily on me. I needed space to clear my mind and decide what was best for everyone involved.
One quiet morning, as the stadium was just beginning to stir with the sounds of early practice, I decided to take a step back. I called both Ronald and Ozzie separately to explain my decision.
I first met Ronald at a small coffee shop near the ballpark. His usually bright demeanor was overshadowed by a concerned look as he greeted me.
"Hey, Y/N," Ronald said, his voice tinged with apprehension. "What's going on?"
"I've been thinking a lot about everything," I started, my hands nervously fidgeting with my coffee cup. "And I've decided that I need some time to myself. I can't make a decision right now, and it's not fair to you or Ozzie to rush things."
Ronald's expression shifted from concern to frustration. "So you're just walking away? You're not even going to try to figure out what you want?"
"It's not about walking away," I said, trying to remain calm. "It's about taking the time to understand my own feelings. I don't want to make a choice I might regret."
Ronald's eyes flashed with hurt. "I understand that you need time, but this feels like you're leaving us hanging. It's not fair to either of us."
"I know it's not fair," I admitted. "But I need to be honest with myself and with both of you."
Ronald's shoulders slumped, and he took a deep breath. "Alright. If that's what you need, then I'll respect it. But just know that this isn't easy for me."
I nodded, feeling the weight of his disappointment. "Thank you for understanding, Ronald."
Later that week, I met with Ozzie at a park, a place where we had shared casual conversations and laughter before. The mood was more somber today.
"Hey, Y/N," Ozzie said, trying to mask his nervousness with a smile. "What's up?"
"I wanted to talk to you about everything," I began, taking a deep breath. "I've decided I need some time away from both of you. I can't make a decision about who I want right now, and I think it's best if I take a step back."
Ozzie's face fell, his smile fading. "So, you're not choosing me either?"
"It's not about choosing right now," I said, struggling to keep my voice steady. "It's about figuring out what I truly want and need. I don't want to lead anyone on or make a choice I'm not ready for."
Ozzie's shoulders tensed, and he took a deep breath. "I understand that you need time. I just wish things were different."
"I wish they were too," I said softly. "I'm really sorry if this hurts you. It's not my intention to cause any more pain."
Ozzie nodded, his gaze distant. "Alright. If that's what you need, then I'll give you the space. But it's hard to know where I stand."
"I know," I said. "And I'm sorry for the uncertainty."
As Ozzie walked away, I felt the heaviness of my decision settle in. I knew that stepping away was necessary for my own clarity, but it didn't make the situation any easier for anyone involved.
Over the next few weeks, I focused on myself. I took long walks, spent time with friends, and immersed myself in my work. The clarity I sought was elusive, but I hoped that by distancing myself, I would eventually find the answers I needed.
Despite the emotional distance, both Ronald and Ozzie remained professional and polite during our interactions. They respected my decision for space, but the unspoken tension was palpable. I could sense their confusion and hurt, even if they didn't voice it.
One evening, while sitting alone in the empty stadium, I gazed out at the field where so many memories had been made. I reflected on my feelings for both Ronald and Ozzie and the complex emotions that had driven me to this point. The stadium lights cast long shadows, mirroring the uncertainty I felt inside.
I knew that the time I had taken was necessary, but the future was still uncertain. Would I ever be able to make a choice that would make everyone—including myself—happy? Or would my decision to step away only complicate things further?
As the days passed and the Braves continued their season, I remained at a crossroads, unsure of how to navigate the path ahead. The dilemma of choosing between two people I cared deeply about still loomed over me, unresolved and hanging in the balance.
