Jac Caglianone - "The Dugout Secret" Pt. 2

For exactly seven days after their confession at Kauffman Stadium, Y/N Massey and Jac Caglianone managed to keep their relationship hidden.

Barely.

At first, it almost felt easy.

They avoided obvious interactions at games. Y/N stopped lingering near the dugout before first pitch, and Jac tried very hard to act normal around Michael Massey.

That was the problem.

He was trying too hard.

Michael noticed it immediately.

"Why are you being weird?" Michael asked one afternoon inside the clubhouse.

Jac looked up too fast. "What?"

"You've said 'bro' to me like twelve times today."

"That's normal."

"You called me 'brother' earlier."

Jac blinked. "Did I?"

Michael narrowed his eyes suspiciously while teammates nearby tried not to laugh.

Y/N wasn't doing much better.

At family dinner one night, she smiled down at her phone without realizing it.

Michael instantly noticed.

"Who are you texting?"

"No one."

"That's a lie."

"It's literally not."

"You're smiling at your phone."

Y/N rolled her eyes dramatically. "People smile, Michael."

"Not like that."

She nearly choked on her drink.

The secret became harder to maintain after that.

Especially because Jac was terrible at hiding how much he adored her.

During games, his eyes still drifted toward her in the stands without thinking. After wins, he'd unconsciously search for her face first before interviews. And every single time Y/N walked into a room, Jac's expression softened instantly.

Unfortunately for them, Michael finally noticed it too.

The disaster happened after a Saturday night home game.

The Royals had won in extra innings, and the stadium buzzed with excitement as families and friends waited near the player parking area.

Y/N had texted Jac telling him she'd meet him briefly before leaving.

Simple.

Quick.

Safe.

At least that was the plan.

What they didn't know was Michael had forgotten his headphones in his car and walked back toward the garage right as Jac pulled Y/N gently behind a concrete pillar out of sight.

"You're leaving already?" Jac asked quietly, hands resting on her waist.

"I have work tomorrow," she whispered back.

"You could call in sick."

Y/N laughed softly. "You just don't want me to leave."

"Correct."
