Jeongin sat in the waiting room of Dr. Hwang Hyunjin’s clinic, clutching a small cup of water with both hands, his palms sweaty despite the cool air. His heart had been racing ever since he stepped into the building, but it wasn’t just because of the dull ache in his tooth. No, it was because of him—the man who had stolen his attention the moment they first met, and who made Jeongin’s heart do ridiculous flips every time he saw him.

Dr. Hwang Hyunjin was perfect. Too perfect, in Jeongin’s opinion. With his sharp jawline, broad shoulders, and the way his white coat made him look so professional yet somehow more attractive, it was almost unfair. Jeongin had been coming here far more often than any normal person should, pretending to need check-ups or cleanings just for a glimpse of him, but today, his excuse was real.

His tooth throbbed, and it felt like karma was finally catching up to him for all those fake visits.

“Jeongin?”

Hearing his name snapped him out of his thoughts, and he looked up to see Hyunjin standing at the door to the exam room, clipboard in hand. His expression was calm and professional, but his dark eyes seemed to linger on Jeongin just a second longer than usual.

“Ah, yes, Dr. Hwang!" Jeongin squeaked, his voice cracking as he stood up too quickly, nearly stumbling over the leg of the chair. Flustered, he steadied himself and smiled awkwardly, cheeks burning. He wasn’t usually this clumsy, but something about Hyunjin always made him feel like he had forgotten how to control his limbs.

Hyunjin raised an eyebrow, a small amused smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "You okay?"

“Yep, totally fine! Just… ready for my appointment,” Jeongin rambled, walking quickly into the room, his pulse thundering in his ears.

The room felt smaller today, or maybe it was the way Hyunjin’s presence seemed to fill every corner of it. Jeongin slid into the examination chair, trying to look anywhere but directly at Hyunjin as he adjusted the chair and grabbed his gloves.

“Alright, let’s take a look,” Hyunjin said, his voice smooth and clinical as he set up his instruments. His tone was professional, but Jeongin could feel the weight of his gaze, and every time Hyunjin looked at him, Jeongin's heart skipped a beat. He was trying so hard not to blush, not to let on that the real reason he was always so giddy around Hyunjin was because he was completely head over heels for him.

Hyunjin leaned over him, reaching for the overhead lamp. As he did, the fabric of his white coat brushed Jeongin’s arm, and Jeongin had to bite the inside of his cheek to stop himself from giggling nervously. *Why am I like this?* he thought miserably. He felt like a teenage boy with a crush, his heart doing that annoying thing where it sped up whenever Hyunjin so much as looked in his direction.

The exam began, and Jeongin could hardly focus on anything other than how close Hyunjin was, the warmth of his presence, and the gentle touch of his fingers as he worked. Each time Hyunjin's gloved hands brushed against his face, Jeongin had to force himself to remain still. He wanted to melt into the chair.

"So, what’s been bothering you this time?" Hyunjin asked, peering into Jeongin's mouth with the little mirror.

Jeongin tried to answer, but all that came out was a garbled sound as his lips were stretched open. His fingers gripped the edge of the chair, trying to stay calm, but his nerves were already on edge. His tooth hurt, but his heart was racing for an entirely different reason.
