King Hyunjin, a very glamorous king of a grand kingdom, sat on his magnificent throne in his luxurious night outfit. The rich velvet of his robe shimmered under the golden chandeliers that lit the grand hall. The hall was filled with the soft strains of music, a delicate melody played by skilled musicians positioned near the entrance, providing a backdrop to the graceful performances of the courtesans who danced before him.
Despite the splendor surrounding him, Hyunjin's demeanor was one of utter boredom. He was dressed in his night outfit, a luxurious silk robe that draped elegantly over his lean frame, the fabric whispering with every slight movement he made. His long, dark hair was loosely tied back, a few rebellious strands falling over his forehead, adding a casual charm to his regal appearance. The courtesans twirled and leaped, their silken dresses flowing like water, yet not a flicker of interest crossed the king's face.
Hyunjin leaned back in his throne, his chin resting on his hand, his eyes half-lidded with disinterest. He watched the performance with a detached gaze, his thoughts clearly elsewhere. Occasionally, his eyes would wander to the grand windows, where the night sky outside offered a far more captivating view of the stars and the moon.
The ministers and noblemen exchanged uneasy glances, whispering among themselves. They knew their king was difficult to impress, but tonight his apathy seemed deeper than usual. The hall, usually alive with the sounds of admiration and applause, felt eerily quiet save for the music and the soft rustle of fabric.
One of his advisors, a stout man with an accurately groomed beard, approached cautiously, sensing the king's weariness. "Your Majesty," he began, bowing deeply, "the courtesans have prepared this performance especially for you. Perhaps you might find it entertaining if you gave it a chance."
Hyunjin's eyes flickered to the advisor, his expression unchanging. "I have seen enough performances to last a lifetime," he replied, his voice smooth but tinged with impatience. "These dances, these songs... they all blur together after a while." Hyunjin sighed softly, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the armrest of his throne. "It is not that I lack for activities or amusements," he said, his gaze returning to the dancers. "It is that none of them seem to hold any true substance. All of this," he gestured vaguely around the hall, "feels hollow."
As the advisor bowed and retreated, Hyunjin's eyes once again wandered to the night sky outside. The music continued to play, the courtesans continued their dance.
One courtesan, braver than the rest, dared to meet his gaze as she spun closer, her eyes seeking any sign of approval or acknowledgment. But King Hyunjin's eyes remained unfocused, as if he were lost in a world far removed from the opulence and spectacle around him.
"Your Majesty," she ventured softly, her voice trembling slightly, "do the performances not please you?"
Hyunjin blinked slowly, his gaze finally shifting to her. For a moment, he seemed to struggle to place himself in the present. "They are...fine," he replied, his voice smooth yet devoid of enthusiasm. "You all perform well."
The courtesan bowed deeply, retreating with a flicker of disappointment in her eyes. She had hoped to see even a hint of pleasure in her king's face, but his indifference was like a wall too high to climb.
The grand hall fell silent, the music coming to an abrupt halt as the courtesans quickly moved aside, creating a clear path towards the grand entrance. The change in atmosphere was palpable, and even King Hyunjin, who had dismissed the rest of his court earlier, felt a flicker of curiosity stir within him. He leaned forward slightly, his previously disinterested gaze sharpening with renewed interest.
