James' P.O.V.

It had been a quiet morning, and I could tell Regulus was slipping into his little headspace again. His usual sharp, cold demeanor had softened, and the way he clung to his stuffed German shepherd gave it away. Today, he needed to be Little Regulus, and I was more than happy to take care of him.

"Hey, Reggie, how about we pick out an outfit for the day?" I asked gently, smiling as I knelt down beside him. He looked up at me from the couch, his dark curls falling in his face as he hugged his stuffed dog a bit tighter.

"Mhm..." he mumbled, clearly already lost in the mindset of his younger self. His big brown eyes peered at me hesitantly.

I stood up and held out my hand for him. "Come on, let's get you all dressed. I've got something comfy in mind."

He hesitated for just a second before slipping his smaller hand into mine. Together, we walked to his room where I had already laid out his favorite clothes: a soft, grey shirt with a cute dog print, some denim overalls, and his special paw-print mittens. Regulus always seemed to gravitate toward them when he was feeling especially small. They made him smile.

He glanced at the outfit and let out a quiet giggle, a sound that warmed my heart. "Doggy paws..." he whispered shyly, hugging his stuffed dog close.

I chuckled softly. "Yep, just for you, Reggie. Let's get you dressed."

It didn't take long for me to help him into his overalls, fastening the straps securely and making sure he was comfortable. I slipped the mittens onto his hands last, watching as he flexed his fingers inside the soft material, admiring the pink paw pads with an innocent grin. His collar, a light blue one with a small bell, was already fastened around his neck—something that made him feel secure in his little space.

Once he was dressed, I grabbed his pacifier and handed it to him, knowing how much it helped him stay calm. He took it from me with a tiny, grateful nod before popping it into his mouth. The gentle suckling sound filled the room as he clung to his plush dog.

"All set?" I asked, brushing a curl away from his forehead. "We've got a big day ahead. I thought we could play with your cars or maybe go outside for a bit."

Regulus nodded, holding out his stuffed toy like it was going to answer for him. "Doggy wants to play outside..." he said softly, his voice slightly muffled by the pacifier.

"Outside it is then," I grinned, taking his hand once more and leading him to the back garden.

We spent the afternoon playing with his toy cars on the grass, the sunshine spilling over us. Regulus ran around, his boots stomping happily in the grass as he pretended his toy dog was chasing after the cars. His laughter was infectious, filling the air with pure joy. It was moments like this that made me realize how important it was for him to have this escape.

After some time, he began to slow down, his energy waning as the excitement of the day caught up with him. I could see him eyeing his water bottle, the one with the cute puppy design on it, but he seemed too shy to ask for it.

I sat down next to him on the grass and held out the bottle. "Thirsty, Reggie?" I asked, watching as his little fingers wrapped around it gratefully.

He nodded and took a few sips, still hugging his plush toy in one arm. I ruffled his hair gently and smiled. "You've had a big day, huh? Think it's time for a rest soon?"

Regulus yawned softly, his eyes blinking sleepily as he leaned into my side. "Doggy wants a nap..." he mumbled.

"Doggy's got the right idea," I whispered back, pulling him close. "Let's head inside for a nap, okay? I'll read you a story."

With his pacifier still between his lips and his stuffed dog held tightly, Regulus let me guide him back into the house. He toddled along beside me, his head resting against my arm, his little world peaceful and safe.

As I tucked him into bed, I could see his eyelids drooping already. I picked up his favorite storybook and sat beside him, reading in a soft, steady voice. Before long, Regulus was fast asleep, curled up under the blankets, his stuffed dog still nestled in his arms.

I smiled to myself as I watched over him. It wasn't always easy, but taking care of Little Regulus was worth every moment. He deserved this—his safe space, his comfort. And I'd make sure he always had it.
