The Potter house was bustling with holiday cheer, filled with the warmth of laughter, and decorated from floor to ceiling with festive garlands. Sirius, however, had his sights set on exploring every nook and cranny—his boundless energy keeping Remus on his toes. He could barely turn his back without Sirius slipping off into another room or getting into something.

The Potters had gone out to get last-minute supplies, leaving Remus in charge of Sirius. And after a morning of mischievous antics, Remus had come prepared. As they prepared to go for a walk around the village, he slipped a backpack leash onto Sirius—something he'd brought specifically for occasions like this.

"Remus," Sirius protested, twisting around to see the strap connected to him. "I don't need this. I'm not a little kid."

Remus raised an eyebrow. "Right. And last time I let you out of my sight, you almost ended up in the neighbor's chimney."

Sirius grinned, not even pretending to deny it. "That was one time..."

"One time too many," Remus replied, giving the leash a gentle tug. "Come on, Sirius. Just humor me."

As they made their way down the path from the house, Sirius tried to wander off more than once, captivated by every shiny rock, interesting bush, and imaginary trail that caught his eye.

But each time he got more than a few steps away, Remus gave a gentle pull on the leash, guiding him back with an amused, but patient, smile.

Eventually, Sirius gave in with a dramatic sigh, but Remus could see he secretly enjoyed the attention. "Fine, I'll stay close," he said, playfully tugging against the leash.

Remus chuckled, giving Sirius's shoulder a squeeze. "I'm just trying to keep you safe. Besides, I wouldn't want to lose my favorite troublemaker."

Sirius beamed up at him, the usual spark of mischief softening into something warmer. "I guess I don't mind so much," he murmured, leaning closer to Remus as they continued their walk together, Sirius tethered happily by his side.
