Soft feminine voices lulled Amelia out of her dazed sleep. She willed her eyes to open and they did so but not without protest. The light immediately hit her and a soft groan left her lips followed by footsteps coming from her general left "Amelia? Oh you're awake, how are you sweetheart?" One of the nurses asked. Amelia blinked a few times and her vision came into focus finally.
Before her stood a short woman about five foot three with short layered peppered and salted hair, she had plump cheeks and a soft look in her eyes that were currently shining with care and a emotion Amelia couldn't quite place. She quickly brushed it off as a wave of pain radiated from her left cheek and she reached up a hand to cup it to try and ease the pain.
The nurse tutted at her and instead produced an ice pack and held it up gently guiding Amelia's hand towards it "This will work much better than a shaky hand don't you think?" She asked as Amelia took hold of it and nodded in agreement "Yes ma'am, thank you. If you don't mind me asking, how did I..." Amelia trailed off as a soft voice spoke in her mind You've shifted child the voice said gently. Amelia looked over her shoulder and saw only a window looking down on the courtyard of the schools grounds.
She looked back at the nurse questioningly "What did you say?" Amelia asked. The nurse gave her a confused glance "I've said nothing, are you okay dear?" The nurse asked before continuing "Do you not remember what happened, I'm assuming this was your first time then." The nurse said. Suddenly it hit her, the shift, her bones breaking and rearranging, the fur sprouting from her body, her body stretching extending her by a foot and a half.
With a shaky breath she looked at the nurse "What am I?" Amelia tried to hide the pleading tone in her voice but the fact of it was she was lost, going through this alone, her parents never bothering to say a word knowing when the time came she would be on her own. Tears of betrayal threatened to escape her eyes but the nurse clearing her throat brought her back to earth "You are a werewolf, a shape changer and a product of the moon goddess." She said slowly allowing her to take every word in she sent her way.
She nodded in part to assure her that she heard, and to assure herself she wasn't dreaming she pinched her arm. Ouch nope. This was really happening to her. She looked up as the nurse continued "Now that you have had your first shift, doing so again won't take a toll on you as it has this time, your body has adjusted to make the accommodations for your wolf to be able to return on command" she blinked at this, just knowing that at any point she could turn into a mass of fur and teeth and claws in seconds scared her.
Do not be afraid of me little one, I won't hurt you or anyone unless we are threatened that same voice from before rang in her head again and she stiffened once more. I am your wolf Yu'Tiral but please refer to me as Tira My breath hitched "your wolf talks to you." She said aloud to no one in particular but the nurse chuckled in response regardless "Yes I'm assuming you are communicating currently with your wolf, the speak to you and only you through a mind link, speak with your thoughts and the voice inside you, your conversations are yours and yours alone it's a sacred bond" she finished.
Amelia felt more and more shocked as time went on but with the nurses help she came to understand her background and connections to the school and their history, her history of being werewolves. By the end of it all her mind was reeling with the newfound information. All that was left to do was to face her parents with what she learned and experienced, but the pain of being left to do it all alone held her back.
She sighed and finally got out of bed at the infirmary and headed back to her dorm. On the way she let herself get lost in thought thinking about what to say to her parents when a familiar body appeared in front of her. Once again Amelia was crashing into someone. Except this time she didn't fall back, in fact she managed to go back a centimeter before regaining her footing We need to work on that coordination Tiras voice rang through her mind causing Amelia to chuckle.
She suddenly became aware of the eyes staring down at her confused at her random laughter. she looked up but was meeting with unwanting gazes. It was Josiah from before she had shifted and a man she didn't recognize that looked exactly like him who had to be his twin, he was too young to be his father. Amelia's eyes immediately went back to the floor as she mumbled a apology.
Was it really such a crime to be lost in thought? Or was he purely tired of her running into him, she wanted to say it wasn't on purpose but to save herself the embarrassment she stepped to the side and walked around them. Tira whimpered slightly as distance was placed between them Lia mind linked what's wrong? She asked but to her surprise your wolf won't always answer every question something's you need to know for yourself she whispered as she quieted down and left Lia to the rest of her night.
Lia made it back to her dorm and as soon as she reached the bed she let sleep consume her. Body and soul.
