"It's soon time guys!" Mike says over the line to the other guys on their four-way call. There single was only minutes away from dropping. "I'm super stoked, but super nervous at the same time. That's how it always is isn't it?"
"In a way. But this time it's a whole different sound and vibe." Calum adds.
"Yeah...How are you feeling though?" Luke directly asks him, knowing it was he who came up with the initial backstory of the song. A broken-hearted Calum had brought the chorus and a half-written bridge to Luke first; fearing its elements may have been too personal. To which Luke told him he was being ridiculous and how good it was. Ashton and Mike —who produced it —agreed. And the foursome had spent three days in some Air BnB in Joshua Tree getting everything right; from the vocals to the instrument arrangement. And though when the finished product came out, Calum felt as if he was baring a hidden part of his once broken soul to millions of people, he also felt some weird sense of peace.
"Pretty good; a little anxious though." He says. "Ready to see how it's received. Hopefully well."
"Of course it will be man." Mike reassures him. "Think Audr will like it?"
"No clue honestly."
"Maybe she'll admire the sentiment; that you were a mess without her."
"Sure. If the situation was different though, I would be more desperate for her to hear it."
"Might as well have called the song Audra yeah?" Luke teases.
"How about we find a new joke?" Calum snorts, as they laugh.
"You two just got back together. We've really got a reason to use it now. Speaking of Audr', do you guys plan on breaking the news before or after the album drops?"
"We're planning for after. She doesn't have any major performances or appearances scheduled, which is great. And It makes sense because we'd be finished with promo and everything, and then the two of us can just focus on that in itself."
"It'll probably end up giving her more traction unintentionally." Ash points out.
"Which I fear in a sense, because I don't want people thinking our child is some sort of... exploit, to make her relevant. Wouldn't be the first time Modest pulled a stunt like that."
"But Audra's relevant enough though." Luke scoffs.
"We know that. But someone's bound to take it the wrong way."
"You know we can't control the way people think man. But I think it's gonna go well for you two."
"I sure hope so."He sighs, before they drop the conversation and the excitement of their singlefills them again.
