Someone's daughter, someone's mother.

"Mom and dad. Thought you guys weren't scheduled to see me until next week?" Dr. Hansen says, letting the pair in.
"Yes, but a very worried mom couldn't wait until then. We tried to call, but your line was busy, so we just came here."
"Yeah, I've been in conferences all week. My secretary told me you kept calling. So, I said I'd make time for my favorite parents-to-be. But to what do I owe this visit? Nothing too bad I hope."
"Our girl's been moving around a lot more than normal. We didn't know if it was okay or what to do..." Audra shrugs.
"Increased movement is normal considering she's only got about 3 weeks left in there." He informs them, pressing on her stomach a little.
"I reckon she's just ready to break free and see us instead of just hearing our voices." Calum jokes.
"Oh for sure. She's probably just really excited to see her mom and dad." Dr. Hansen agrees. "But hey, it doesn't hurt to take a look at things while you're here. Though I'm pretty sure our girl is good."
He rubs some of the jelly onto her stomach. The next few moments are silent as his eyes run over the ultrasound image. This time, looking at the image made Calum's heart full. It reminded him of how close he was to becoming a father: of how quickly his life would change in just a few days.
"So how is she looking?" Audra asks as he gets up from the stool.
"Uhm..."The subtle hesitation makes Audra's heart skip: and not in a good way. Not when the doctor was known for being quick on his feet. The silence felt like an eternity, though only a few seconds. "If you guys would excuse me for one moment."
"Everything alright Doc?" Calum stands up; observing the man's skittish movements.
"Sit tight. I'll be right back with you guys." He deflects, leaving the room momentarily.
The shift is felt immediately by them both.
"Calum." Her eyes are still trained on the ultra sound image.
"Don't. " He starts, already knowing that tone in her voice. "There's nothing to worry about." He's doing his best to brush away any mental images his mind kept forming.
"Something's not right..."Her voice is just above a whisper as she studies the screen before her. "Something's changed."
"Something like what?" Calum's says confused.
"I don't know but it doesn't look right!" Her voice increases in sound and in fear. "CALUM SOMETHING'S WRONG?! I KNOW IT!" She's full on crying now. "I KNEW SOMETHING WOULD GO WRON—!"
"Hey!" He says sternly: momentarily causing her frenzy to stop. "Everything will be fine alright?" And he hates that his voice decided to break in a moment where he was trying to be strong: for her and for himself.
A nurse comes rushing in. "Everything okay in here?"
"I...I think something's wrong!" Audra points to the screen. "Please tell me what's wrong?"
The young woman glances around the room for a second— trying to find Dr. Hansen most likely— before entering. She takes a look at the screen. And by the way her face pales, Audra for sure knew something wasn't right.
