Flashback

The sound of spells being cast echoed through the dimly lit room.
The entire group of teenagers who had managed to enter the Ministry of Magic was caught off guard by the arrival of the Death Eaters.
In their aid, some members of the Order of the Phoenix shouted at them to get away, leaving the task of defeating Voldemort's followers to them.
But no one had listened to their words; within moments, everyone was too busy casting spells to protect themselves.

Sarah fought on the front lines against Bellatrix, struggling to keep up with the woman, who laughed occasionally.
"Ohhhh, I expected more from you! Are you or are you not a Black? FIGHT!"
The girl gritted her teeth; her arm hurt from a previous fall.
"EXPELLIARMUS!" she shouted, finally disarming the witch after several attempts.
Bellatrix laughed sadistically, bringing her hands to her face.
"You saw that? YOU SAW THAT? OH, LITTLE BLACK HAS DISARMED ME!"
But soon after, Sarah lost sight of her,she was no longer in front of her. Nearby, she noticed Sirius involved in a direct fight with other Death Eaters.
Sarah continued to fight, trying to get closer to her father.
Sirius grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her behind a rock that looked like a true archway.
"Gather everyone and get out of here!"
Sarah shook her head and brought a hand to her wounded arm, noticing a deep cut stained with blood.
"No, I'm staying here with you!" She tried to stand, but Sirius pushed her back down.
"You've done great, but leave it to me now, Sarah," he said, giving her a small kiss on the forehead.
A spell shot above their heads, and Lucius Malfoy stood there, smiling at them.
"Black," he said, pulling his wand from his pocket. Two more Death Eaters appeared out of nowhere, their black robes covering their entire bodies, leaving only their heads exposed.
Harry ran toward his godfather and Sarah; they were now in perfect balance and would have no trouble fighting.
The two teenagers easily disarmed the two men, sending them flying toward the grey room's wall, leaving only Lucius in front of them.
"Expelliarmus!" Harry yelled.
The wand flew away, leaving Lucius defenseless.
"Nice one, James," the boy smiled at his godfather, though the smile faded quickly.
Sirius hit Malfoy with another spell, and the man fell to the ground, completely stunned.

"Avada Kedavra!" A female voice shouted from the other side of the room.
A green streak of light struck Padfoot right in the chest, almost knocking him down.
The man looked up at Sarah and Harry, disoriented, feeling his body weaken more and more.
His eyes showed fear, but he decided to give them one last smile, one last time.
He was almost dragged into the veil of smoke that had formed between the stone pillars, disappearing shortly after.

Sarah saw nothing more; no one was left standing in front of her.
Her eyes widened in shock as she realized what had happened.
A scream echoed through the room, drawing everyone's eyes to the girl, now curled up on the ground.
It was enough to make Remus Lupin jump into action.
Sarah sprang to her feet, as if all the energy she'd lost in the battle had returned, and began running toward the Veil, her eyes filled with tears.
The man grabbed her just in time, and they collapsed to the ground, one in the other's arms.
In just a few seconds, three people lost everything: a friend, a godfather, and a father.
Harry was stopped by Tonks, who approached him slowly, wrapping her arms around him. It didn't last long, as the boy broke free, determined to follow the one who had killed one of the few people he had left.
Sarah lay in her godfather's arms, her eyes burning, as did her throat from the scream.
She stared at the great archway, was it a joke?
Would he reappear shortly?
Perhaps it was a trap for the Death Eaters?

She felt her heart in her throat, and for the first time in her life, she couldn't breathe. Her chest hurt, and the room spun quickly around her.
"Breathe, breathe, Sarah," Remus felt her body shaking, not only from the panic attack but also from the deep shock she had just experienced.
He tried to lift her, with Hermione's help.
"Go, go to Harry, all of you. I'll take her to Hogwarts, she needs help," the werewolf shouted, picking up the girl, who couldn't walk.
Hermione, along with the rest of the group, nodded slowly.
They looked at Sarah one last time before leaving to find Harry Potter.
Remus used one of the fireplaces to return to the school grounds.
He ran, ignoring the stares of some students.
He arrived in the infirmary shortly after, where a tired Madame Pomfrey was placing some potions on the shelves.
She turned her head quickly when she heard the door being thrown open.
"For heaven's sake! Do you think—" she stopped immediately at the sight of the two.
She said nothing and pointed to the empty bed in front of her.
"She's in deep shock, she's trembling, I... I don't know what to do..." Remus ran his hands through his hair, pacing back and forth.
The woman paid him little attention and began talking to Sarah.
"Sarah, Sarah, it's okay. Now I'll give you something to calm down, alright? You're tired... oh, you're so tired, darling." She took a ready-made potion and brought it to the girl's mouth.
Sarah didn't resist, quickly swallowing it as she looked at the woman with her tear-filled, empty eyes.
"He—" but Madame Pomfrey stopped her before she could continue.
"Rest, Sarah, rest."
Shortly after, she fell into a deep sleep, thanks to the medicine, under the watchful eyes of both the woman and Remus, who couldn't bring himself to leave her alone.

From that day forward, Sarah Black began to live a different life, marked by the awareness that, sometimes, choosing the right path demands sacrifices that even magic cannot heal.
