The Indian grey mongoose or Asian grey mongoose (Urva edwardsii) is a mongoose species native to the Indian subcontinent and West Asia.

The Indian Gray Mongoose (Herpestes edwardsii) is a small carnivorous mammal native to the Indian subcontinent. Known for its sleek gray fur and long, slender body, the Indian Gray Mongoose is highly adaptable and can be found in a variety of habitats, including forests, grasslands, and urban areas.

ts temperament is irascible. It will relentlessly track down its prey — rats and other rodents, lizards, nestlings, scorpions and snakes by sight or scent, and kill the victim with a vicious bite to the head. Its mode of attack is usually head-on, frontal and brutal.

The mongoose may be either diurnal or nocturnal. Basically a terrestrial animal, they are very agile, and can climb skillfully. During the morning they frequently stretch-out in the open to sun themselves. They feed on insects, frogs, snakes, birds, and other small animals as well as fruits.
