The Asian lion, also known as the Asiatic lion, the Indian lion, or the Persian lion, is a lion population of the subspecies Panthera leo leo. Until the 19th century, it occurred in Saudi Arabia, eastern Turkey, Iran, and Mesopotamia.
Asian lions are social animals and live in prides, with an average size of 2-3 females and their offspring, along with one or two males. Unlike African lions, where a single male rules over a pride, in Asian lions, the females are dominant and will mate with multiple males.
Asian lions are slightly smaller than African lions. Unlike African lions, the males do not tend to live with the females of their pride unless they're mating or have a large kill.
Asiatic lions' diet is made up of both large and small mammal prey such as deer, wild boar and antelope. They have also been known to feed on domestic cattle.
