The Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), also known as the Komodo monitor, is a large reptile of the monitor lizard family Varanidae.

Researchers have also documented a venom gland in the dragon's lower jaw. In addition to the harmful bacteria, the venom prevents the blood from clotting, which causes massive blood loss and induces shock. The Komodo's bite may be deadly, but not to another Komodo dragon.

Even so, they are incredibly fast, and can outrun many animals and definitely humans! They can run up to 20km per hour! They're also fantastic swimmers and climbers – a victim of the Komodo Dragon doesn't really have anywhere to escape.

Komodo dragons eat almost any kind of meat, scavenging for carcasses or stalking animals that range in size from small rodents to large water buffalo. Young feed primarily on small lizards and insects, as well as snakes and birds.

Diet items ; Adults. Wild boar; Sunda deer; Water buffalo; Large snakes; Occasionally, smaller Komodos; Less commonly, goats. Only occurs near human habitation.

Adults are top predators but juvenile dragons are preyed upon by adult dragons (cannibals), feral dogs, wild boars, civet cats and snakes.
