The Indian leopard (Panthera pardus fusca) is a subspecies of the leopard (P. pardus) widely distributed on the Indian subcontinent.

Some of the common prey of Indian Leopard are Sambhar deer, Nilgai, Wild Boar, Langur, Peafowl, Indian Hare, etc. Leopards are an opportunist predator, also frequently killing small livestock and feral animals like sheep, lamb, feral pigs, Rhesus Macaques, and also street dogs.

Indian leopards, despite being strong predators, must compete for food and territory with other sympatric predators, such as Bengal tigers, lions in the Gir National Forest (the Asiatic lion's last stronghold), striped hyenas, dholes, Indian wolves, mugger and saltwater crocodiles, pythons, venomous snakes, and other leopards.

In India, the leopard is found in all forest types, from tropical rainforests to temperate deciduous and alpine coniferous forests. It is also found in dry scrubs and grasslands, the only exception being desert and the mangroves of Sundarbans. It shares its territory with the tiger in 17 states.
