"And so you just walked away?" Caroline asked Adeline as she snacked on her fries. The grill was loud as it was filled with tons of people. Playing pool and eating burgers was about the most entertainment as there was in this town on a Wednesday.

"What was I supposed to do care? the guy was a total ass." Adeline sighed and held back a groan as Elena walked in with stefan by her side. Adeline kept her eyes tightly focused on Stefan with every move he made around the room.

Caroline bumped Adeline's arm with her own. "He's a total smoke show isn't he?"

Adeline nodded absentmindedly. She watched as Matt made his way over to the pair. He began to talk before roughly shoving past them, clearly mad that Elena brought him.

Elena lead him over to the table Adeline, Bonnie and Caroline were sat at. He greet each of the girls. His eyes hovering slightly on Adeline before moving over to Bonnie

"So you were born in mystic falls?" Caroline pushed a fry in her mouth as she asked the question.

"Mmhmm and moved when I was still young." Stefan nodded as he spoke.

"Parents?" Adeline asked. She pushed the ice in her soda around with her straw as she awaited the answer.

"My parents passed away." Elena looked deep in thought as she looked at Stefan.

"I'm sorry." Elena was very sincere. Elena knew better than anyone at the table what it felt like to lose your parents. Caroline shared a knowing look with Adeline. Stefan nodded. "Any siblings?"

"None that I talk too." Stefan looked towards Adeline as he spoke. Something sparked in his eye as he looked at the girl. He shook whatever thought he had in his head out before turning back to Elena. "I live with my uncle."

Caroline perked up. "So, Stefan, if you're new then you don't know about the party tomorrow?"

Bonnie shrugged. "It's a back to school thing at the falls."

"Hardly a party." Adeline mumbled quietly. A smirk played on Stefan's face as he heard the girl. He turned towards Elena.

"Are you going?" Stefan asked with a smile.

"Of course she is." Bonnie cut in before Elena could even answer his question. Elena smiled slightly at Bonnie.

"It's not like Elena to miss a party." Adeline smirked at Caroline as she giggled. Elena let herself giggle a little too.

Stefan turned to Adeline like he was missing something. "I'm not sure I quite understand."

I'm not sure I quite understand.

I'm not sure I quite understand

The words rang in Adeline's ears as her eyes locked in on Stefan. He was no longer in his leather jacket but instead in a white button up with suspenders. The smell of chrysanthemums burned Adeline's nose as she stared at the boy. They were surrounded by flowers and she was sat upon a marble bench. As if her mouth had a mind of its own she replied.

"Whats not to understand, Stefan? It's a party."

As the words left her mouth she was no longer sitting on a bench, she was in the grill. In front of Stefan and she could hardly breathe. It was like the air was sucked out of her lungs and she couldn't pull it back in.

Stefan tilted his head at her slightly. He could tell something was off. Adeline jumped slightly when Caroline placed her hand on her arm.

"Ada are you okay?" Adeline shook her head before pushing herself up from her seat and rushing outside.

The cold air stung her nose as she walked out of the door. She sucked in large puffs of air to try and calm her nerves but it was not working. Her mind and heart were racing and right now her mind was winning. They were never that long and she certainly never responded.

She pushed a hand through her curls and turned to walk back inside. Except her path was blocked. A large body was in front of her and she could tell he didn't intend to let her pass.

She looked up to meet his face only to see the man that almost ran her down hours before. She tried to walk past but he stepped in her way. She sucked in a breathe.

"Look if this is about earlier, I'm sorry I had a long day, okay?" She moved to go past but again he moved in front of her. She sneered. "Do you mind?"

"Whats your name?" The man asked with a sense of urgency. It was more a demand than a question. When she didn't respond he stepped closer looking her directly in the eyes. "Tell me your name."

She paused for a moment before letting out a loud laugh. The man looked confused at her laughter. He looked hurt or confused. Both. He paused for a moment. He looked like he wanted to say something to her before he bit his tongue. She used the moment to push past him and return back inside. She shook off the dark feeling she had and went back to the table. Caroline was the only one who remained at the table.

"Are you ready to go?" Adeline asked with a sigh. Caroline looked at her for a moment.

"Are you?" Caroline raised an eyebrow at the girl.

Adeline shrugged. She wasn't sure. She wasn't sure if anything at the moment. She turned slightly and looked back at the door behind her. Adeline picked her phone up off there table and made an attempt to follow Caroline out of the grill.

Once outside Adeline turned in every direction to make sure the creep wasn't anywhere near. She made it quickly to her car and unlocked it so that her and Caroline could get in.

Adeline turned to car on and pulled her phone out. "Will you send me the homework p.... Shit!"

"Whats the matter?" Caroline almost giggled but kept it to herself. Adeline threw her head down on the steering wheel before turning to Caroline.

"I have Stefan's phone. He must of grabbed mine by accident." Adeline placed the phone down on the center console and let out a loud sigh.

"Ada are you okay today? You're acting off." Caroline was sincere. Adeline had know Caroline long enough to tell when she was being serious and when she wasn't.

Adeline took in a small breath. "Yeah." She paused. "Yeah I'm good."
