Adeline laid in bed staring at the ceiling. The moonlight shined bright through her window as she thought about everything Stefan had taught her and the fact that Clara had unknowingly cursed her. She tossed and turned struggling to fall asleep as everything played in her mind.
"You know after so many times, you think you would get a security alarm or something?" Damon's voice sounded out causing Adeline to turn to the sound with a huff.
She let out a groan when she saw him and threw her head back. "What do you want?" She griped as she stared at the ceiling.
"Grouchy." He quipped. "You were so much more fun when I had you trembling."
"Yeah, well I guess that goes away when you're constantly bugging me." Adeline finally rolled over to look at him. She leaned her head on her hand as she spoke.
"Oh come on," Damon walked forward slowly. "There's not even an ounce of fear?"
She shook her head. She was being honest. After her talk with Stefan today she looked at Damon completely differently. He was just hurt. Maybe he had an evil plan but Adeline knew Stefan had been right. Damon had at least a tiny shred of humanity. No longer would she let Damon walk all over her, toying with her emotions.
He got to the edge of the bed. The veins under his eyes swirling as he got closer to her. Her heart started to beat faster but she knew now it wasn't from fear. He stalked closer until he was right above her. His hand shot out and grabbed her throat. She still wasn't afraid. Damon's eyes squinted when he could tell that she wasn't trembling beneath him.
He leaned closer to her until his breath fanned across her. "You still have several hours until my blood is all out of you." He tried to antagonize her but it only made him more angry that it wasn't working. He tightened his grip, enough to breathe but not enough to hurt her. He brushed a stray curl away from her face. His free hand traveling down her side landing on her hip. He pushed her farther into the mattress.
Adeline sighed softly as his grip tightened. "You won't do it." She pushed. Slowly she slid her hand up and under her pillow.
"I can do whatever I want," Damon huffed turning his head. "Whenever I-"
A deep gruff left his mouth at the sharp pain in his side. Adeline pushed him off quickly as he was distracted. He landed on his back next to her on the mattress. He groaned in pain as he dug his head into the mattress. Adeline hovered above him now holding the stake in. She gave it a slight twist causing Damon to grab her thigh, squeezing in pain.
"You've got guts, I'll give you that, blondie." His voice came in a small grunt as he was writhing in pain. "You gotta do better than that if you wanna kill me though."
She leaned down toward his face. Her hair cascading around them like curtains. "I'm not trying to kill you, Damon." She drawled out. She twisted the stake further. His grip leaving bruises on her thigh as he squeezed. "I'm not your plaything Damon And I'm done letting you toy with me."
Damon stared up at her with heavy eyelids. Something like regret flashed in his eyes. She pulled the stake out quickly, tossing it on the pillow next to his head. She grabbed to sides of his jaw leaning closer to him a move he always seemed to pull on her. "I'm not her Damon. I won't be your little pet because you lost her."
Damon shook his head out of her grasp. She sat back up. His hand still remained on her thigh covering the bruises that formed underneath. "One little talk with Stefan and now You think you know everything, huh?" Damon spat.
"No." She said honestly. "But I do know," she gripped his hand moving it off her leg as she stood up. She walked to the other side of the room and opened her window before she moved the walk back to the side of the bed he was laying on. "That deep down, you do have some shred of humanity, that hangs onto Clara, and you know that if you kill me you loose her all over again."
Damon Leaned up on his arms as he rolled his eyes at her. He stood up. Towering over her small frame as his eyes grew dark. A sliver of fear worked its way up Adeline's body as his eyes raked over her.
"Next time you stab me, blondie." His fingers trailed up the vein in her neck. She shivered at the touch. A smirk built in his face as he finally got the reaction he was looking for. She was sure with his fingers delicately dancing over her neck that he could feel the pulse below. "I might not forgive you so easy. I might just snap that pretty little neck of yours, vampire blood or not."
She pointed towards the open window. "Tell me want from me or leave. I have more than enough stakes around this room to do some damage."
She was lying and he knew she was lying and she knew he knew she was lying. He chuckled, looking around the room as if daring her to make good on the bluff.
His eyes drifted back to her. Lingering on her body for a second before moving to her face. "Be my date to the founders party that's what I want." His eyes went cold as he spoke.
Adeline's mouth opened to say something but it closed quickly. She didn't really even wanna go to the founders party, she was already being forced to go because of her mom but to have to bring Damon along, the thought made her want to pull her eyeballs out. She went to argue with him but he held his finger up.
"You said anything, blondie." She sigh, she knew he was right. She had unknowingly signed her rights away to Damon just to protect her friends. Damon had made good on his end, so Adeline had to too.
"Why do you wanna go anyway?" She sighed sitting down on her bed. "You've probably been a million times, grandpa." She muttered the last word quietly.
Damon laughed at it, a wholehearted laugh. Adeline looked at him like he'd grown a second head. He scoffed already knowing what she was thinking.
"You know, behind all this sexy charm and masterminding, I can be nice." Damon leaned against the wall across from her and crossed his arms against his chest.
Adeline chuckled. "I doubt it." She smiled slightly. "To much masterminding to even show personality." It was a lie. He could show personality when he felt like it. She had seen it. She lightly threw a pillow at him. Which he caught with ease.
He stared at her for a long moment. Studying her every move. She squirmed under the intense eye contact. He finally tossed to pillow back on the bed.
"I'm sure you've seen enough of my personality." He raised an eyebrow at her. She knew what it meant, her visions.
" I don't just see those things, you know?" Damon's body tensing up as Adeline spoke. "I feel them too. I feel how happy she was with you, how much she loved being around you." Adeline played with the hem of her tank top as she spoke. "Makes it hard."
Damon's hard eyes traveled from the floor to her face at her words. "Makes what hard?"
"Makes it hard to believe what you want everyone around you to believe." Damon inched closer to her, hanging onto every word she said. "You try and make everyone around you think you're a monster but you're not. Even if you think you are."
Damon was quiet now. Probably the most silent Adeline had ever heard him. "Wear something sexy to that party." And with that Damon was out the window and gone before she could let out a syllable of a response.
