Setting the packed suitcases aside, Priya sighed and settled on her bed, resting her head back on the headrest.
The fragrance of untimely rain still lingered in her room. Normally, she'd be on the balcony, cradling a warm cup of coffee and losing herself in soft melodies. But today was different—the eve of her marriage.
Marriage! Is it not one of the things that is set in stone, after life and death? It was at least the case with her middle-class family. But still, she couldn't wrap her head around it; uncertainty still lingered.
In these few meetings, she had become familiar with Shalini, Shardul, a few others, and of course, Ram.
A sigh again escaped her lips.
'How much did she know about Ram?'
'That he is a foodie.'
'He loves his mother more than anyone.'
' is little impulsive.'
'Respects relationships and people.'
'A workaholic being a businessman.'
'Goofy, dramatic, and a child at heart.'
But were these enough to seal a lifetime bond?
Perhaps.
Perhaps not.
Fate alone held the answer.
.
Leaving the unknown up to destiny, Priya sat straight, her gaze drifting to the familiar walls of her home, where the memories of laughter and tears had painted an indelible canvas. Each corner held a story: giggles with her sisters, bickerings with her mother, comforting hugs from her father, and late-night conversations with her friends.
Leaving the familiar nooks and crannies of her home, the comfort place, the perfect pillow, and, most importantly, her people; tomorrow, she'd be in an unfamiliar place amidst almost strangers, building her life all over again with added responsibilities and relationships.
The overwhelming thoughts were enough to bring tears to her eyes.
As if to her rescue, the door of her room creaked open. "Coffee time," her father entered, announcing cheerfully.
Priya smiled, hiding her emotions. "Chef's special?" she playfully asked as he set the tray between them, sitting on the other end.
"Specials for special," his words held the comfort and warmth, as he well understood the emotions in the room.
Priya giggled, sipping the warm, slightly bitter liquid. "You know the perfect recipe, Papa."
"Of life or coffee ?" his eyes twinkled.
" Both," she smiled.
"You will learn it too, par khali life ki haan, kyuki Ram ke ghar mein to vo coffee machine hogi na," his words quivered as the thought of Priya going away came up again.
Her eyes turned teary as she pushed the coffee tray aside, shifting closer to him. "I will miss my coffee partner."
He immediately wrapped his arms around her, placing a kiss on top of her head, capturing this precious moment in his heart.
"Ram hai na, usko bana lena naya coffee partner," he spoke, composing himself back.
Priya chuckled, breaking through the hug. "Mr. Kapoor to coffee ke sath bhi pizza khate honge," making him laugh too, remembering Ram's love for pizza.
