(Sophie's POV)

The next Friday, I panicked as I waited for the dance to start.

It was noon, and the dance was at 8:00. I have eight hours! I shouldn't be nervous at all! Keefe probably isn't nervous...

(Keefe's POV)

I was so nervous I had to grab the largest piece of paper that I could and draw an entire map of what my future house might look like. I draw when I'm anxious, especially now.

What if Sophie didn't really want to go to the dance with me? What if she was just being nice?

I shoved those thoughts away and decided to shower and re brush my teeth.

Then I decided to do those things again, because... Well, I didn't want to smell bad... I know it's stupid, but I really...

The thought trailed off when I realized a puff of green powder on the floor.

I grabbed a broom and started to cover it up, when I realized it was a sleeping powder, used for one of my pranks. My eyes widened as the puff of green powder exploded, and everything went black.

(Sophie's POV)

It was 6:00. I decided not to try on my dress, because I was worried I'd get it dirty because of my clumsiness.

But I took a shower, re brushed my teeth after eating dinner, and decided to explore Jolie's old room.

I found a picture of her and Brant under her pillow. But Brant was a distorted version of Keefe, and Jolie's eyes and turned brown, just like mine. The photo fell and shattered at my feet.

My eyes popped open.

It was a dream.

I had fallen asleep on my bed.

I sighed heavily and glanced at the clock.

It was 7:40. My eyes widened as I slipped my dress on and straightened my hair. I gave Iggy some tummy rubs because he insisted, and then I checked myself out in the mirror. Edaline came in with a proud smile on her face.

"You look so grown up." Edaline whispered, pulling me into a hug. I smiled.

She pulled back and peered at me, like she was trying to see into my soul.

"I have some earrings for you. I wore them on the night I met Grady." Edaline said softly. She opened her fist, revealing beautiful sky blue earrings that matched my dress. I hugged her tightly, "Thank you."

I quickly clipped on the earrings and adjusted my hair one more time, before I leaped away to Foxfire, where a shadowy figure was waiting at the front.

"Keefe!" I called, excitedly walking over. I paused when I realized it wasn't Keefe.

It was Fitz.

My eyes narrowed as a crowd of prodigies flocked around me, the first students arriving for the dance.

"Hey, Sophie. Sorry, I'm just waiting for Biana." Fitz said awkwardly.

"Okay." I positioned myself a safe distance away from him and stared up at the sky. It was turning purple after the sunset had sank. Some stray birds were settling in their trees to rest.

"So, um..." Fitz cleared his throat. "I'm sorry about... Everything. When I visited you, you seemed really overwhelmed, and if you're mad I didn't visit, I'm really sorry."

My tone hardened. "I'm not mad you didn't visit, Fitz. I'm mad that you kissed me."

He sighed and dragged a hand through his hair. "Look-"
