(Keefe's POV)
The black pegasai dived at me as Grady slashed at Lady Gisela, and Edaline took on Gethen. Glimmer helped me with the pegasai, slashing one of their ribs with a throwing star.
"Wow, you're good at this!" I shouted at Glimmer as the pegasai whinnied in pain.
I spoke too soon.
The taller pegasai charged at me, stomping his hooves with a killer look in his eyes.
At the last second, I dived out of the way, crashing into a nearby tree and smashing my arm against it. I hit my head hard. Stars flashed before my eyes.
When my vision cleared, I struggled to stand, feeling nauseous.
Grady and Edaline were cornered by Mommy Dearest and Gethen, and Glimmer laid on the floor, blood trickling from her chest as the two pegasai limped over to their master. Gethen gave the two pegasai a head pat and then he turned to me.
I wobbled on my feet. "You're not..." Dizziness struck me as I used the tree next to me to balance myself upright. "...Getting away with this."
"Oh, I believe we are." Gethen replied. "Don't worry, we'll make sure your girlfriend's parents get what they deserve. And maybe if you cooperate, we'll let you live." My mom handed him a mask and they both put them on. "Say goodbye." She whispered. Then, before I could run, they tossed a sedative bomb at my feet, and everything went...
Blue.
I fell into a dream.
Wait, not a dream.
It was actually happening.
Foster stood there in a dark room. By herself. A spotlight shone down on her from above. She wore a long black skirt and a black leather jacket that made her look like a super stylish secret agent. Not that she isn't already stylish.
The leather jacket had a Neverseen eye on it. I shuddered.
She tugged out an eyelash as she whispered, "Hello?" I wanted to scream at her that I was here and that I wanted her to come back home, but she couldn't hear me anyway.
The sound of a door clicking open filled the silent, dark room.
Then the clipping of heels.
Slowly, a figure emerged from the darkness and into the spotlight.
"Vespera?" Foster breathed. "But... You're supposed to be dead!"
"I am very much alive." Vespera replied, her voice as emotionless as ever. Sophie shuddered.
"That's what I sounded like..." She whispered. Vespera ignored her and paced around the spotlight in her midnight blue dress. The crown on her head would block Sophie's inflicting.
"We're the same now." Vespera whispered, folding her hands in front of her as she stared into Sophie's brown eyes.
"We could never be the same." Sophie snapped. "You're an emotionless, cruel-"
"Oh, you're making me blush." Vespera said. Her face still didnt change. I don't think she can blush...
"I know why you joined the Neverseen." Vespera taunted. Foster froze.
Vespera paced around her, studying her from every angle as she nodded slowly. "Yes, yes, I can see it perfectly now. Your cells are changing just as I had presumed."
"What?" Sophie asked.
"When I said that, you thought about your little boyfriend, didn't you? Well, it's so strong now that an Empath could see it from a mile away." Vespera explained. "It will consume you pretty soon. And then it won't matter if you have the power of stellarlune. You will become my apprentice, whether you like it or not."
