(Keefe's POV)

"Mom? How are you still alive?" I asked.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" Ruy snapped.

"Oh, calm down, Ruy, he's just a naive little obstacle." Gisela said dismissively. "Keefe, all you have to do is give me that hair. Sophie will be alive again. Don't you want that?"

"Yeah, but with you, there's always a catch." I replied. "So what is it this time?"

"No catch. I just need Sophie alive for my plan." She said.

"That's a catch!"

"There's always a catch."

"But you just said-"

"Hush, child, I'm negotiating." Gisela said calmly. I rolled my eyes.

"If you don't give me that hair-" Fintan snapped. Gisela cut him off.

"If you don't give me that hair, you will pretty much kill Sophie. She can only preserve her consciousness for so long. Oh, you didn't know that, did you?" Gisela smirked when I paled. "Now you see reason." I sighed.

"Well, I guess you got me." I mumbled. "Fine. Just promise you won't hurt her, okay?"

"I don't make promises." Gisela replied.

"Then no hair."

She scowled. "Fine. I promise I won't hurt her."

"You know you can't lie to an Empath, right?" I teased.

"You must've gotten your obnoxiousness from your father. Very well... I promise I won't kill her."

"Wrong. It's hurt, not kill. Well, both apply, but-"

"Should we just kill him?" Fintan complained.

"Nah, I need him for future evil plans..." Gisela mumbled.

"Okay, how about this? What if I bring her back to life and you promise not to hurt both of us and then you can go on with your stupid plan?" I suggested.

"How about no?" Gethen muttered.

"Well, then we're at a stalemate. You can't kill me, I can't kill you, we can't negotiate, why don't we sleep on it?" At that moment, I remembered I had those sleepy smoke bombs that Dex had given me.

"Eh, I'm not a sleeper." Fintan decided. "I'm more of a bad boy murderer arsonist type. Trust me, the ladies love it."

"What ladies?"

"Shut up."

"Stop bickering, it's giving me a headache." Gisela snapped. "Okay, why don't we all lower our weapons?"

"Nah, I'd rather not." I decided, holding up a throwing star. "I've been practicing."

"You're more stubborn than the Moonlark." Gisela muttered.

"Thanks, I got it from you."

She rolled her eyes. "This is taking too long." She snapped her fingers, and a giant gun showed up in her hands. "Give it. I don't care about killing you anymore."

"Okay, why don't we all-"

"Give it to me now!" She snapped. Instead of doing the sensible thing, I took a deep breath and flung the sleepy smoke bombs.

Immediately, all of their bodies collapsed. I sprinted over to Sophie and placed the hair on her chest, right next to her heart.

"Come on..." I muttered. Then I realized I had taken a breath. "Oh no..." The drowsiness filled me. I held my breath before I could pass out completely and carried Sophie up the stairs... But the trapdoor was locked.

"No..." I mumbled. Just before I fell asleep, I saw a blurry version of Ro open the locked trapdoor and shout, "Don't breathe!" And then I passed out with Sophie in my arms.

When I woke up, I immediately sat up and scanned the room. I was in Sophie's room. Laying in a cot... Next to her bed.

I stood up from the cot and walked over to her. The color was back in her face, and I could see her chest rise and fall with every breath. I sighed with relief.

"Thank goodness."

"You're welcome." A familiar voice said. I turned to see Ro leaning on the doorframe. "I saved both of you, tied up those black cloaked losers, and didn't chip my nails!" She showed off her blood red claws. "Some of that might be blood actually... I kinda punched a couple in the teeth."

I smirked. "Did you get my mom?"

"Extra hard."

"Good bodyguard."

She rolled her eyes. "If you treat me like a dog, I'll treat you like a dumpster."

"You already do."

"See? Im such a great snarky teacher. So proud." We both snort laughed.

Elwin stepped into the room and hugged me tightly. "I'm so glad you're okay."

I was a little stunned but I smiled and hugged him back. "Glad you're okay, too."

"Well, I'm okay, but I'm not sure about Sophie. She's gonna need a while to recover." We both glanced at her.

I stepped closer as Ro ushered Elwin out of the room for Team Foster-Keefe time.

I brushed some of her hair out of her face and her eyelids fluttered.

I held my breath as those beautiful golden brown eyes focused on me. They widened and then she practically tackled me with a hug. "You did it." She whispered. I smiled and laughed.

"Of course I did it, Foster, are you saying that you doubted the Hunkyhair?" I said with an offended tone. She laughed and hugged me even tighter.

"Awwwwww that was even cuter than a scorpion during mating season!" Ro squealed.

"Don't scorpions fight and violently murder each other during mating season?" Sophie asked.

"Exactly!"

Me and Sophie exchanged a look and laughed.

"I missed you." Sophie whispered, squeezing my hand.

"Missed you too, Foster." I replied.

I don't think any other kiss with her has been better.

*Awwwwww teenage love 💕

Too bad this is fictional 😞

Anyway, just came back from church, so here's a verse they shared with me: 2 Corinthians 8:8-9. "I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love is also genuine. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake, he became poor, so that you by his poverty, might become rich."

Have a great week!!! And be safe. One of my friends almost got hit by a bus sooo

She's completely fine she was even laughing cause the bus driver gave her a lollipop but just stay safe cause Im a bit nervous what would've happened if that driver didn't see her. Also, I won my football game so that's good!
