"Anthropology is quite similar to psychology in most aspects, but the difference lies in—"
Jiyeon zoned out, the lecturer's voice fading into the background as her eyes fell onto the glass windows that offered a view of the light blue skies that had shades of sombre to them, indicating an incoming rainfall.
One hand that clutched the pen rotated it between her fingers habitually while the other ran through her wavy, layered hair by the side of her face as she bounced her legs against the floor restlessly—pondering about the voice from last night.
"Remember, I have always got my eyes on you."
Shivers. Her eyes were forced to a close with eyebrows gathered and discomfort settling into her nerves at the mere thought of the intruder who manifested in her room whispering something strange and leaving without a single trace.
But what she could not wrap her head around the most was how the voice felt oddly familiar, and she could not point out to whom it belonged.
"Thinking about me, love?"
The voice interrupted her chain of thoughts that crumbled within an instant, and she flung her eyes open, turning in the direction of the voice, and they rounded upon the figure that sat beside her.
She recognized him instantly. He was the red-eyed male she had run into on the streets the previous day.
"Excuse me?" Jiyeon muttered in disbelief at the bold statement from a stranger, moving an inch away from him, and her eyes caught the red eyes that glimmered in between strands of his raven hair.
Are those contacts? She wondered.
He propped his elbow on the desk, resting his head in his palm whilst staring at her with a soft smile, mimicking the exact grin she was given in the middle of the road, and she looked away.
"How did you get in?" She arched her eyebrows questioningly.
"Guessed it." He let out a sigh while leaning back with both hands locked behind his head, staring at the ceiling.
Was he a part of my class all along?
"That brain of yours must be a decoration." He commented, shaking his head in disappointment as he mumbled something to himself, and Jiyeon looked away, trying to drift her focus onto the lecture.
Whatever.
She ignored him but could definitely feel his eyes boring holes into her from her peripheral vision, and that shattered every ounce of attention towards the loud, one-sided study session that was ongoing.
"What are you doing?" She breathed out, annoyed.
"Staring." He deadpanned.
"Yeah, so stop it."
"Why, I love watching my prey before I kill them."
What the fuck is wrong with this guy?!
"What, are you a fucking animal?" Jiyeon rolled her eyes, feeling her patience run low. She was irked by this strange man who had been uttering uncanny statements since their first encounter.
He pondered for a few seconds before replying, "Maybe so?"
"What is that even supposed to mean.." She whispered to herself, unable to decipher anything that escaped his mouth.
Jiyeon's gaze flickered from the lecturer to the glass window, where she caught onto her reflection, and when she looked behind her, there was no mirror image of the guy.
She whipped her head to confirm if he was still hanging by her side, and she was quickly met with a smirk so vicious yet demure.
She looked back at the window, and oxygen was knocked out of her lungs, suffocating her at the discovery.
He did not have a reflection.
This time, Jiyeon was chilled to the bone—her blood ran cold at the possibility of conversing with someone who might not be a human.
Who is he?
Gulping the lump down her arid throat, she did not let her expression falter and give away that she was evidently alarmed by his presence.
"I'll report you. So quit whatever it is that you wish to do." Jiyeon warned sternly, trying her best not to let the fright show in her voice.
He chuckled, "Do you even know my name?" He questioned logically, and she paused, feeling stupid.
Jiyeon did not dare to spare him another glance, scared that her 'cool-as-a-cucumber' facade might crumble the very second her eyes would meet his deep red, luring ones, so instead, her grip on the pen tightened, scribbling some words she picked up from the lecture onto her notebook.
"What is it?" She asked with an uninterested hint to her tone, which made him spring forward, closing the distance between them to a few inches.
"Curious, aren't we now?" He grinned, unlocking his hands, and when he advanced towards her, Jiyeon jerked away, digging her nails into her palm so hard that her skin threatened to tear under the impact.
His slender fingers moved a few strewn strands of her raven hair away, a tingle following suit with his touch and his face dipped closer to her ears, making her close her eyes, dreading his unpredictable next move.
"The name's Lee Donghyuck." He mumbled in a low rasp before retracting hastily.
Wait. She paused, feeling deja vu.
In the blink of an eye, he was nowhere to be seen, vanishing from her vicinity.
A black feather twirled in the air beside her, settling onto the wooden furniture, and she picked it up. After racking her brain for a whole minute, she put two and two together, and her eyes flickered as wide as a daisy in bloom when realisation dawned on her.
"You?!"
All heads turned in her direction, and her fingers curled around the quill. Embarrassment quickly crept onto her as her ears and cheeks flushed red. She mumbled out 'sorry' a few times before pursing her lips into a thin line.
Her eyes scanned the whole class and briefly met with Mark, who seemed to already have his gaze on her, observing her from afar, but she had better things to pay heed to at the moment.
She had now gained herself a red-eyed, weird creature who stalked her, and all she knew was his very name.
