"What the actual fuck!"

Rulin yelled, causing Renjun to close his eyes at her loud voice that rang in his ears.

"My ears are going to bleed." Jeno cupped his ears with his palms, eyeing Renjun, who shared a similar reaction.

"I'll cut mine off so I don't have to listen to her nonsen―"

"Pay attention, Jun!" Rulin slapped her brother's arm, and he rolled his eyes, darting his attention onto Donghyuck, who had announced a new speculation.

"What, so you think she is one of us?" Renjun joined in and Jeno dropped his arms when the tone of the conversation plunged down an octave.

"A demon?" Jeno mulled with crossed arms, and the shirt over his torso stretched around his built figure, the material threatening to tear as his toned muscles flexed.

Donghyuck leaned against the wall, his all-black look blending with the black interiors of his house, eyes roaming elsewhere as she constantly occupied his mind.

A human. He almost snickered.

"Even if we assume she is one of us, it makes no sense that she resisted against her nature for all these years." Jeno articulated knowledgeably and Renjun languidly nodded, yawning as he zoned out of the conversation.

"Jeno is right." Rulin agreed, furrowing her eyebrows in thought, "Plus, being around you should have heightened the demon senses in her, yet she is still with a beating heart."

"Yeah, whatever, but why are you so overly curious about her identity?" Renjun questioned, getting to more pressing matters while the rest only worried about uncovering the truth.

Donghyuck stuffed his hands into his jeans, closing his eyes as he reminisced the conversation with his father the night he had mentioned Jiyeon.

"What is her name?!"

"Kim Jiyeon."

Fear. A stray emotion known to demons flickered so evidently in Satan's eyes, the imagery imprinted in his mind so clear like yesterday.

Donghyuck reopened his eyes, meeting gazes with the three who stared at him wordlessly for a response.

"'Cause my father has something to do with her." He reasoned out after a long pause.

"Satan.. has something to do with Jiyeon?" Rulin uttered, quite taken aback at the mention of the very ruler of their world.

"He asked me to find out about her." Donghyuck added as he fidgeted with the rings on his slender fingers.

Renjun chuckled as he drew a conclusion, "So you have been carrying out your father's mission, great."

"Whatever floats your boat." Donghyuck shrugged, not paying much heed to the inference since it did not faze him in any sense.

"Mission sounds fun!" Rulin chimed in excitedly.

Jeno facepalmed himself at her terrible timing, "You should learn to read the room, Lin."

The double doors swung open to the mansion, revealing a demon in his middle age, black hair slicked back and eyes a shade of crimson as he strode in, and when he caught onto the four who occupied the spacious halls, he paused.

"Long time, kids." The man smiled, glancing at the gathering, and everyone except Donghyuck quickly stood up to show him a bow of respect.

"Uncle Deoksu, is anything the matter?" Donghyuck asked, noting that the elder had walked in with a sense of urgency while pulling his hands out of his pockets.

"Did the captives escape?" Rulin questioned, slightly worried to see the troubled elder.

Deoksu worked directly for Satan and managed the prison that held demons who violated the rules of any world captive to maintain peace and order within the Heavens, Earth and Hell. While residing in the mansion, he grew close to Donghyuck and his friends, who had often hung out at the house.

"No, dear." Deoksu shook his head before scrutinizing the area for any listening ears, and when he was in the clear, he spoke up.

"Ah, where do I even begin?" Deoksu sighed, "The demons that strolled Earth have begun causing problems and now I have to clean the mess." He explained, clutching his temples at the incoming headache from the excessive workload.

"Problems?" Donghyuck arched his eyebrow, wondering why the harmony between the Earth and the underworld had slowly been disintegrating.

"These low lives have killed humans out in the open and―" Deoksu broke off as he dropped his arms down and looked over the four, "Forget it." He waved a hand in the air, dismissing his words.

"Has Satan given a verdict on this matter?" Jeno enquired, wishing to know if any new rules had been passed, and he looked over at Donghyuck, who appeared just as clueless as him.

"No, we are yet to look into it." Deoksu replied with shoulders slouched by heavy concern at the rather slow progress of happenings.

"Anything we can do to help you?" Donghyuck offered and the rest nodded, stepping forward to lend a hand if needed.

"Do not roam Earth recklessly or, worse, kill anyone, kids. You have to stay low until this issue sorts out." Deosku warned, and the four shared a quick glance, communicating in silence as the pause dragged out for a few seconds.

Before Deoksu could grow wary, Donghyuck hastily replied.

"Sure, Uncle. Don't sweat it." Donghyuck smiled assuringly to his Uncle, who nodded before climbing up the stairs and out of their sight.

There was a silence that hung in the air, thick with tension and the warmth of hell, embracing them uncomfortably until Renjun decided to speak up.

"So, is your 'mission' still on?"

"Yes. I'm not giving up on that one."
