Looking at you with my anxious gaze
Tranquil.
Jiyeon roamed by the shelf passageways, contented to reap the benefit of the silence after monotonous lectures that rang in her ears all morning.
Calculating that she still had ample time on her hands before her shift at the store began, she decided to borrow some books from the university library that could assist her in understanding her subjects in depth.
The windows were slightly agape, permitting the harsh, hot rays of the sun at noon to cast shadows on the marble flooring, beaming in clear lines, and the dust particles that danced to the melodies of air became visible to the naked eye.
Her skin bathed in the daylight, taking in the warmth, and her eyes quickly scanned the titles printed on the spine of each book until one book caught her eye. She pushed the adjacent ones apart, allowing her to grab the one she needed.
And just then, she was met with a pair of oddly coloured eyes staring at her from the other side of the shelf.
It's him. Lee Donghyuck.
Her heart picked up its pace.
Run. Her brain instructed, activating her instinct to flee at the mere sight of him.
Initially, Jiyeon was keen that it was all a prank of some sort to make a fool out of her by god-knows-who. Still, when she gave it another thought, many things did not tally with her presumption—his eyes had a pool of deep red that seemed too natural to be a coloured lens, the slight burning sensation that crawled her skin at his little touch, and most importantly, his ability to appear and vanish out of her sight within a fraction of a second.
She had begun convincing herself that he was definitely an otherworldly creature.
His eyebrow with the silver ring raised along with an arrogant grin that settled onto his face when her almond-shaped, raven eyes quickly rounded, astounded.
Yup, run real fast.
Jiyeon hastily grabbed the book and let her legs work faster, taking long strides to get to a place with people, hoping that he would not bother her if she had some company, but of course, life never worked in her favour.
Donghyuck appeared right before her, obstructing her path before entering the seating area, which was scattered with a few people silently reading their favourite books or studying for the upcoming exam season.
"Missed me, love?" He teased, as always, with the nickname rolling off his tongue effortlessly.
Jiyeon took a step back, and he took one forward—her forehead creased as her heart thumped so loud that she could practically hear it, her pulse palpitating roughly behind her ears, and she grew warm as her blood rushed through her veins.
She raised the book in her hand in between them, hindering his line of sight.
"Evolution's bite?" His voice said as he read the title of the book she held in front of his face before he clicked his tongue, "Boring."
"Y'know, what's more interesting?" Donghyuck asked, sounding like he was about to pitch in something fascinating.
Jiyeon dropped her arm down as it had begun aching from holding it in the air, unsupported, and she was met with his red eyes, once again reminding her that her system was filled to the brim with dread.
"The taste of your blood when I bite that pretty neck of yours." Donghyuck's eyes darted from her eyes to her neck, and his grin widened, flashing his sharp canines.
"What.." Her voice barely exited her cords, strangled in her arid gullet.
Donghyuck shrugged languidly like whatever he had just uttered was normal, "That is what I eventually intend to do." He intently stared into her eyes.
"Rip that neck of yours and kill you." He threatened, low and calm, as he conveyed his intentions clearly to her.
Jiyeon forcefully pushed a huge lump down her throat and a simple "Why?" Was all that could escape her mouth.
"Cause you can see me." Donghyuck pointed out nonchalantly, and her eyebrows jumped.
"Am I not meant to?" Her voice grew quiet as she spoke, beyond intimidated by his aura.
"Of course not." His voice dripped with venom as he slightly let his index finger trace along the sharp lines of her jaw before halting by her chin, and she let out a soft gasp, his fingertips leaving traces of tingle in their presence.
"Looking a demon in the eye is asking for me to ruin your existence, darling."
