Calum was playing outside with his sister on their front garden. It was very hot outside and the air was thick with humidity. The sun was shining and the sky was a calm, deep serene blue. Calum had just celebrated his seventh birthday. He had gotten a new soccer ball and was playing when an unfamiliar red car pulled up into the house next to his driveway. He knew everyone who lived in the area.

A girl with long strawberry blonde hair hopped out of the back seat. She wore a purple princess dress, white socks and pink shoes. She clutched a fairy wand tight in her left hand. She had chocolate on her face, but to Calum, she was undoubtedly perfect.

Mr and Mrs Hood walked out to greet the people from the red car who had just pulled up into the house adjacent theirs.

"Calum, Mali, this is Alice. Her and her Mum moved here from Perth," Mrs Hood explained, ushering for them to come over and introduce themselves.

"Hey! I'm Alice," the girl announced, extending her arm out to shake both Mali and Calum's hands.

The two siblings introduced themselves.

"How old are you?" Alice questioned.

"I'm eleven," Mali replied.

"It was my birthday today. I'm seven," Calum stated proudly.

Alice's eyes lit up.

"I'm seven too!"

Calum smiled.

"Hey? Mum! Can Alice come and play with us?" Calum asked, looking up at his Mum who was currently talking to the new neighbours' mother.

"Of course. Invite Alice inside for some cookies," Calum's mother replied.

Alice grinned and thanked Mrs Hood.

Mali lead the way into the kitchen, Calum and Alice trailing behind.

"Will you be going to my school?" Calum nervously asked.

"I don't know. Mum said I was going to Waterfall Lane?"

"That's the school I go to!" Calum exclaimed.

"That's great! I'll have a friend! Will you have lunch with me? I don't wanna be on my own," Alice said.

"Of course!"

The following Monday, they went to school together. Calum introduced her to his friends and everyone got along well. She fit right in. People liked her.

Calum knew that Alice was different from others. She wasn't afraid of what others thought of her. She said whatever she wanted, but wouldn't be rude or mean either. She was a great listener and always fun to be around. You could count on her too.

That day was the day a long, meaningful relationship began.

Calum will forever remember Alice Rose. He thought he was the luckiest person in the world to have even had the chance to meet her and befriend her, but falling in love was completely different. He didn't think there was a possibility that he'd meet someone like her. Calum knew, from the moment he saw those beautiful green eyes, that he'd love her forever, no matter what. If they never became such good friends, he'd still love her. If they had grown apart after a couple of years, he still would've loved her. If she lived on the other side of the world, he'd still love her. If she hated him and didn't love him, he'd still love her. If she had loved someone else, he still would have loved her. He. Still. Would. Have. Loved. Her.
Although she is no longer alive, Calum will forever love her, until the day he dies; he will always love her.
