The gym did nothing to clear my mind. All night, I couldn't shake the sight of those pills.
My hands clenched reflexively at the memory. I need to talk to her-soon. I can't sit back and let her destroy herself.
It was still early, barely 7 a.m., as I headed upstairs, lost in thought. But as I passed the kitchen, I heard something-humming? It was soft, playful, and completely out of place at this hour. I paused.
Stepping into the kitchen, I spotted Aisha at the counter, wearing an apron too big for her petite frame, her face lit with an infectious grin. She turned around, her grey eyes sparkling.
"Good morning, Veeru!" she called out cheerfully.
I smiled despite the tight knot of worry in my chest. She had that effect on me. "Good morning, sunshine. What's got you up this early?"
"Making a cake before Divuu wakes up," she replied, her voice bright with excitement.
It took me a second to realize. "Oh yeah, it's his birthday," I murmured, running a hand through my hair. "You should've called me. I would've helped."
Her eyes twinkled mischievously. "No need, Veeru. I already had help."
I frowned, confused. "Who?"
With a grin, she grabbed someone from behind the counter and yanked them into view-Vikram, of all people, wearing a pink apron, his expression murderous.
"My Vikkie was with me!" Aisha announced, barely holding back her giggles.
Vikram groaned, rubbing the back of his neck. "I told you not to tell anyone," He muttered darkly, glaring at her. "That's why I was hiding."
Aisha, in true bratty little sister style, reached up and pinched his cheeks. "Aww, my big tough Vikkie, baking cakes. You're such a cutie!"
I couldn't help it-I burst out laughing, the sound echoing off the kitchen walls. Seeing Vikram, the unshakable bull of the family, in a pink apron, was beyond priceless.
Arjun bhai walked in just as I was catching my breath. He paused at the doorway, blinking at the scene in front of him.
"Well, well," he said, his voice laced with amusement. "This is a rare sight. I don't think my eyes have ever been so blessed."
We all laughed again, except for Vikram, who shot daggers at Aisha but couldn't quite stop the twitch of a smile on his lips.
Aisha beamed at all of us. "Alright, the cake's done and in the fridge. Now I'm going to get ready before Divuu wakes up." She turned to leave but stopped in the doorway. "Oh! Did you guys see my bag?"
I replied quickly, "It's in your room. I put it there last night."
She grinned at me. "Thanks, Veeru!" And just like that, she dashed off.
