The Land of Narnia ~ Frozen River ~ Day
After a while, we finally get to a cliff, and when you look down, you can see the frozen river, which was melting slowly. Large ice chunks were breaking off the bigger ice base. Icicles hung from where a waterfall should be.
"We need to cross, now." Peter said urgently, leading all of us to a way down.
"Don't beavers make dams?" Lucy asked in horror.
"I'm not that fast, dear." Mr. Beaver replied.
Sammy started leading us down a small snowy path, before Susan interrupted us.
"Wait! We should just think about this!" Susan said. I could tell she was scared, but she should know we don't have time before the ice completely melts.
"We don't have a minute!" Peter snapped back, turning around.
"I'm just trying to be realistic." Susan said irritably.
"No, you're trying to be smart. As usual." Peter replied, annoyed and irritated, and started walking down the slope again. Susan sighed before walking down too.
When we reached the bottom, we saw ice chunks breaking off faster than we could walk. Peter tried walking across, but since we weighed more than the ice, the frozen water started cracking.
"Maybe I should go first." Mr. Beaver suggested.
"Maybe you should." Peter said shakily, backing up next to Susan.
Mr. Beaver walked out farther on the ice, testing for the strongest and weakest parts. He slapped his tail and feet lightly.
When the ice began to crack a little, Mrs. Beaver said: "You've been sneaking second helpings, haven't you?"
"Well, you never know what meal's gonna be your last!" Mr. Beaver said, still slapping his tail down. "Especially with your cooking."
Mrs. Beaver rolled her eyes playfully. She gestured us to follow her. We walked slowly and carefully, trying our best to not step on the already existent cracks, to make them deeper.
"If our mother knew what we were doing..." Susan commented worriedly, looking at the ground at the cracks.
"Mum's not here!" Peter snapped, annoyed with Susan's constant complaints.
I felt a pang of sadness flow through me...my mother definitely will never learn about this...
Suddenly, we heard ice chunks falling from the top of the frozen waterfall. We all looked up, and saw the wolves running across the top.
"Oh no!" Lucy shouted.
"Run!" Peter cried urgently, pushing us to move. Sammy was over on the other side in seconds. He yelped for us to run to the other side.
"Come on!!" He shouted.
Just then, the wolves pounced down from the top of the waterfall, and onto the ice. I saw Peter's hand was on his sword, so I took an arrow out of my quiver, and set it ready on the bow. I had taken archery classes before, so I was going to be better than most.
Sammy suddenly pounced on top of a wolf, and bit down. The wolf yelped out, and tried to hurt Sammy, but he was way quicker. A wolf from behind pounced on Sammy, pinning him down, and Sammy was using all his strength to get out. I saw the crystals on his collar faintly glow.
Mr. Beaver was pinned down too, but he didn't have the strength of Sammy. So, he was stuck.
"No!" Mr. Beaver shouted.
