The Land of Narnia ~ The Stone Table ~ Very Early Morning
We walked out of our hiding spot, and made our way up the stairs. Lucy ran up, and sat down by Aslan. The three of us had tears in our eyes. Susan looked worriedly at us. Lucy grabbed her cordial, I knew what she was thinking. But it was too late.
Susan watched her undo the cap.
"It's too late." She said softly. "He's gone." Her voice cracked from crying.
Susan walked over to the right side, and walked up the steps to sit on the other side of Aslan.
I went the other way, and sat down by Lucy. Susan and I shared a knowing look. I grabbed my necklace out, and the moonstone started to faintly glow.
"Al, don't waste it. We couldn't change the matter anyway. It was a deal." Susan said to me sadly.
When she said that, the precious stone stopped glowing.
Despite the horrible scene I saw, I felt tired. I wanted nothing more then to be lying in a bed, safe under the covers.
Lucy started to cry again. Both of our gifts couldn't help him. There must be something we could do!
"He must have known what he was doing." Susan said, smiling sadly, looking at Lucy then me and back again. Lucy still didn't give in.
Lucy's tears came, she sobbed into Aslan's fur on his head. She traced his beautiful golden fur. I started to do the same, brushing the fur on his shoulders. Susan started to cry too, and we all lay down on Aslan. It wasn't the warmest, but at least Aslan's fur was so soft.
Susan had her arms around both of us, and we cried for a little while. Suddenly, I began to think like a human. What about Sammy? Edmund? Peter? Did they know we were here? Probably not. It was too early for them to wake up. Sammy knew we left though, and he could probably track us.
Just then, I heard squeaking by us. Lucy and I looked up and saw mice chewing the ropes attached to Aslan.
Susan noticed too.
"Get away! Get away all of you!" Susan exclaimed, trying to shoo them away.
"No, look." Lucy said quietly.
They were chewing the ropes off of Aslan. They broke one at a time. I was thankful for the random field mice that just showed up. We untied more ropes, to help the mice on their job. Lucy started to pull the muzzle off, but struggled so Susan and I had to help her.
When all the ropes were removed, the mice ran away. Lucy put her hand on Aslan's head and stroked his fur, and lay her head down on him.
I heard scurrying by my feet, I looked and saw a mouse that stayed behind. It looked up at me and seemed to smile. It brushed its head against my hand. I pet it, and scratched it behind his ears. He closed his eyes, and ran away to join his family.
I smiled. That mice seemed really nice. I started crying again though.
"We have to tell the others." Susan said, tears falling down.
Lucy looked too tired to walk back.
"We can't just leave him." Lucy said sadly.
"Lucy, there's no time." Susan replied urgently.
"I could run back." I suggested.
Susan looked at me. "Al...we need you here."
Lucy looked at me. "If there is any news, we'll tell you. Go help Edmund and Peter and Sammy. They'll need it."
