Chapter 16 - Saito's mistake

Seeing the smile from Kirche, which is something Saito has noticed obviously, made him feel awkward and let out a nervous laugh as the girl in front of him really didn't show any interest in him, unlike the one he knew from the source material of Familia of Zero. Although there are so many things he wants to know about this Halkeginia AU—one of them is how there's anime exists—Saito tries to be polite since he's an outsider in this world and gives a polite nod to Kirche.

"I-I'm Hiraga Saito, nice to meet you too, Kirche—"

"—It's Mrs. Zerbst. Please don't act so familiar, Mr. Familiar, and remember it well so next time you won't make such a mistake. Understand?"

Saito froze when he heard that, especially the tone and expression Kirche used to him, since that was not like Kirche he knew but the black-haired young man remembered that the red-haired woman had always been like this to other men except someone she loved or knew her that well.

But he didn't know it was this brutal, and somehow she made him scared a bit by acting like that to him. It's as if Saito is a filth in the eyes of Kirche, especially the blatant expression and tone she has used, something Saito was familiar with by watching many anime and manga—there also the fact he sometimes got that kind of treatment back in Earth because of how his obsession with canon Louise.

'Damn... to think the Kirche I had know would be like this when I witness it in person... that's to be expected of Alternate Universe. There's no way it's not.'

He looked down in depression knowing that, and Louise who saw him could only chuckle amusingly before she cleared her throat, held Kirche's shoulders, and said something to her with a fake worry on her face.

"Kirche, don't you think that's a little harsh to Mr. Familiar here?"

"It's not, Louise-darling. I'm just being honest since we don't know each other that much and he wants to casually address me like that. Isn't that a bit much?"

What she said wasn't wrong so Louise cannot refute or deny it, which makes Saito to be more depressed when it also makes sense to him. The world and life he lives now isn't like in the anime or light novel, and it's also the Alternate Universe. He should know and expect this. Not everything will be the same as the canon he knew.

Moreover, every student of this Magic Academy is noble while Saito is a commoner, so his behavior is inexcusable and considered rude due to their differences in social status and class. He cannot fault Kirche for that since what she said is makes sense and considered normal. Despite everything looking modern, he imagined the status of noble and such might remain still and not change that much.

And what he thought about the noble and commoner status wasn't wrong since it's not as bad as the canon because of the massive change Louise and all of her wives did back then which made the world's current situation happen and exist. However, Louise has to agree with Kirche since what she said is correct and it's Saito's fault for that.

"Well... what you've said is correct, Kirche."

She agreed with Kirche and then turned to Saito with a serious yet kind look.

"Then, Mr. Familiar, my apologies for this but I think you should learn some manners. Every student in this academy is a noble, so we expect that you should know your place despite you being my familiar now and your action also will reflect my status."

As cruel as it sounds, Louise is still a noble and holds an amazing reputation. She has so many people admire her, and Saito's reckless behavior and actions may not only affect Louise but anyone who comes in contact with him. He doesn't have the luxury of protagonist anymore since that spot belongs to Louise now. It's not taking a genius to realize that since Saito himself was already aware of it the moment he knew that the world he was summoned into as Louise's familiar wasn't the same as he thought.

With a nervous nod and slightly panicky while sweating, Saito gives his response to his Master politely.

"Y-Yes. I'm sorry for that."

That answer gives a smile and nod of relief from Louise and makes the black-haired young man blush since he cannot help with how beautiful the pink-haired girl is. She might not be the same as the canon Louise, but she is still capable of making Saito's heart flutter and excited. However, the sad and harsh truth that he realizes is he won't ever have Louise or any girls in this Alternate Universe of Halkeginia.

"That's good, Mr. Familiar. Being a familiar or servant of a noble isn't something you can just brush off, even if your Master is the kindest person. If they didn't correct their servant's behavior, then the blame is on the Master, and that gives a clear indication that they're a bad Master to have."

"Louise-darling is right. It is one of the duties for a noble to have and let me remind you, being a noble isn't always bright or easy since we have so many things to consider before taking action. From your appearance, you're a commoner who has no understanding or knowledge about noble—which I can let slide for now but not for the next time—so you should learn about that during your time here as Louise-darling's familiar. Understand, Mr. Familiar?"

The way Kirche referred him made him depressed even further since it went from Mr. Saito to Mr. Familiar which is not a good sign and he can only blame himself for causing such a mistake and impression of him to Kirche. He really shouldn't take this world he summoned into like canon.

"Y-Yes, Mrs. Zerbst. My apologies for the mistake I have caused."

He said while bowing apologetically and somehow Kirche was slightly satisfied as she turned to Louise, giving her beloved pink-haired mage a peck on the lips and wrapping Louise's left arm affectionally.

"Now, Louise-darling, since we have free class today—what we will do?"

In response to Kirche's question, Louise pondered a bit before responding to her with a smile and gesturing her palm to Saito.

"Let's just continue the tour for Mr. Familiar here and after that, we can do anything we want with others."
