Almost Enough #17

Sharyn's POV

I barely saw Hunter throughout March. He was tied up with bar review and graduation preparations, while I was swamped with my events and classes. Honestly, it was better this way—less chance of us fighting. I've started turning into a paranoid girlfriend, and we're not even officially together yet.

Lately, I’ve been tempted to say yes to him, just so I could finally have the right to be the nagging girlfriend who makes him choose between me and whatever else he's been doing. I already talk endlessly to River about their frat, even though he hardly listens—imagine how bad it would be with Hunter, especially when I like him this much.

This is torture.

“Oh, gosh. I am sorry!”

“Hey, what’s wrong with you?” tanong ni Sai sabay tingin sa akin. “Ang sakit ha.”

“Lemme check.” Tumayo ako at lumapit sa kaniya. “It’s good.

“Is it because of Hunter?” Jhules asked.

“Did he make you cry? Gago.

“I will call them now—”

“It’s not Hunter. It’s me, okay?”

“Why?” tanong ni Sai. “Are you confused?"

"I'm just annoyed with Hunter," I said with a sigh. "I mean, what is he really doing... with River? What the hell are they up to?"

"Frat stuff," Aero replied, glancing at me. "And some confidential things... didn't Hunter tell you?"

I shook my head. "He mentioned he's involved with the military and some other organizations... but he didn’t tell me specifically what, because he said he can't."

"So, why are you mad?"

"I don't know... because it's dangerous? Because I don’t want this kind of life... I don’t want to spend our entire relationship worrying about him, if we ever end up together… what if he dies? I mean—I don’t know. I am really confused.”

“Do you like him?”

“Yes. But—”

“I think if you like someone, there shouldn’t be any 'buts,' unless they’re murderers or serial killers, you know…” Aero shrugged. “Anyway, you should focus on studying and not dwell on it.”

“You’re the one who told us not to rush things, to slow down because what’s meant to be will be. So, how about you stop overthinking?” Aero added.

“Why are you so mabait today?” I eyed him suspiciously. “Is this because of her? Umuwi na ba siya?”

“Just, Sharyn.
