I groaned, irritation scratching at my nerves, as the knocking persisted. Groggily, I opened my eyes, yawning, only to be ensnared by a soft, melodic snore. My gaze drifted upward, and I was lost.
Ruhanika's tranquil face mesmerised me. Her eyelashes, long and curled, framed her closed eyes like silk curtains. Her lips, slightly parted, revealed a hint of pink. The gentle rise and fall of her chest hypnotised me.
My gaze wandered, taking in our intimate position. I was hovering over her, my head resting on her chest, our bodies aligned in perfect harmony. The warmth of her skin seeped into mine, soothing my tired muscles.
For the first time in four months, I'd slept without turmoil. My hatred and peace now belonged to the same person - Ruhanika. As much as I yearned to despise her, my soul belonged to her.
Transfixed, I drank in her sleeping beauty. Time stood still. The knocking faded into the background.
But reality intruded, shattering my trance. The persistent banging on the door jolted me awake.
The door rattled under an insistent knock, shattering the intimate moment. I rose from the seat, adjusting my clothes as Ruhanika also started waking up.
"Coming," I growled, flinging open the door to reveal the airhostess standing outside, her eyes sparkling with a hint of flirtation. For a fleeting instant, I flashed a seductive smile, but my tone was curt.
"Fuck off." I slammed the door shut, leaving her taken aback.
"Where are we ?" she asked, her voice laced with fear.
I shot her a dark glance, my expression unyielding. "Flight's landing." The words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken implications.
As the flight attendant's voice echoed through the intercom, Ruhanika's grip on my arm tightened, her eyes darting toward the window with a flicker of fear. Her face paled, lips parting slightly as her breathing quickened. I watched her, transfixed by the vulnerability etched on her features. Her fingers dug deeper into my skin, seeking reassurance, and I sat motionless, my gaze locked onto hers.
My voice barely above a whisper, I began to chant softly, "radhe krishna"The gentle melody was meant to calm her, to calm myself, but Ruhanika's grip only intensified. Her nails dug into my skin, but I didn't flinch. Instead, I wrapped my other arm around hers, securing her, protecting her from the unknown, from her fears.
We sat entwined, wordless, as Mumbai drew near. The engines roared, the plane descended, and Ruhanika's breath warmed my skin. Her heartbeat synchronised with mine, and in that moment, nothing else existed. Only us. The turbulence shook the plane, but Ruhanika's hold remained steadfast, her fear momentarily replaced by trust.
As the plane touched down, Ruhanika's grip gradually relaxed, her eyes never leaving mine.
For a fleeting moment, I wanted to drown in Ruhanika's eyes, to forget everything else. Her gaze held a captivating power, drawing me in with its depth. But memories of her betrayal resurfaced, and my anger flared like a wildfire. I jerked my arm free from her grasp, shrugging off her hold as if it burned me. The sudden movement left her stumbling backward.
