I burst through the hospital doors, my heart racing with every passing second.

As I turned a corner, I spotted her, dissolved in tears, her small frame shaking uncontrollably. She looked up, our eyes met, and she sprinted towards me.

"Rudra”Akshita wailed, flinging her arms around me, burying her face in my chest.

I enveloped her in a comforting embrace, trying to calm her down. Her sobs intensified, and I felt her tears soaking through my shirt.

Mama and Mami, emerged from the ICU, their faces etched with worry and fear. They exchanged a hesitant glance, but remained silent, unsure of how to react.

Their eyes, filled with a mix of desperation and hope, locked onto mine. I nodded reassuringly, trying to convey that I'd do everything to support them.

Akshita's grip on me tightened. "Rudra, bua...," she stammered, her voice barely audible.

I stroked her hair, offering what little comfort I could. "Shh, Akshita. I'm here. We'll get through this together."

Mama took a step forward, his voice barely above a whisper. "Rudra, beta, Ruhanika's mother's condition is critical”

I turned to Mama Ji, my expression stern. "I need to ask you some questions," I said, my voice firm but controlled.

He nodded, his eyes filled with a mix of worry and apprehension.

Before releasing Akshita, I gazed down at her tear-stained face. "My girlfriend, don't cry. I know you're strong, right?" I asked, trying to lighten the mood.

Akshita nodded, her lower lip still trembling.

"My girlfriend is strong enough to stop her beautiful pearls from flowing, isn't she?" I teased, gently nuzzling my nose against hers.

A faint smile crossed her lips, and she nodded again, this time with more conviction.

With a reassuring pat, I guided Akshita toward her mother. Mami enveloped her in a warm hug, shooting me a grateful glance.

I refocused on Mama Ji. "What's going on?" I demanded, my tone unwavering.

He avoided my gaze, his eyes darting around the hospital corridor.

"As far as I remember, Ruhanika's mother was...not alive, right?" I asked, my voice laced with scepticism.

Mama Ji's hesitation was palpable.

"Uncle, I need to know the truth," I pleaded, desperation creeping into my voice. "Maybe I can help her. Please, tell me what's going on."

Mama Ji's eyes locked onto mine, filled with a deep-seated fear. "Rudra, beta...it's complicated," he whispered.

"Complicated?" I echoed, my grip on his arm tightening.

Mama Ji's words tumbled out, each one a puzzle piece slamming into place.
